Split ends affect weakened hair by opening the end of the shaft into two or more parts. Environmental stressors such as sun, heat, and the use of harsh hair products contribute to an increase in the number of split ends. Other factors such as dietary imbalances and the use of the comb on wet hair can contribute to the formation of this phenomenon which can be combated by moisturizing the hair and cutting it every two months.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Intense Balm
Step 1. Wash your hands
Rinse the shampoo off with warm water, and use a towel to lightly pat your hair.
Step 2. Apply conditioner to the ends of the hair
Step 3. Wrap the towel around your head like a turban
Step 4. Leave the towel in place for 15 - 20 minutes
Take it off and rinse your hair with warm water. Wet your hair thoroughly with cold water towards the end to increase the shine.
Step 5. Wrap your hair in a clean towel
Let the towel absorb most of the moisture from your hair, then let it air dry naturally.
Method 2 of 4: Hair Serum
Step 1. Use a hair serum to treat the ends once a week
Look for one with a conditioning agent and ingredients that add shine.
Step 2. Apply a generous dose of this serum to split ends
Comb your hair as you usually do. The serum acts on split ends making them smooth.
Method 3 of 4: Olive Oil
Step 1. Lightly heat 25g of olive oil in a microwave (for 20-25 seconds) and apply it to your hair
Step 2. Wrap a warm, damp towel over your head (or use a shower cap) and leave it in place for about 15 minutes
Step 3. Remove the towel or cap and apply shampoo to the hair twice to completely remove the oil
Step 4. Immediately after, apply a moisturizing conditioner
Step 5. Finished
Method 4 of 4: Hair Cutting
Step 1. You must understand that any treatment will not eliminate split ends, except for cutting the hair
Step 2. Purchase good quality scissors
If you already have a pair you can use them, but never use paper scissors.
Step 3. Trim your hair every 6-8 weeks
- Brush your hair well to even the ends.
- Cut about 1 to 3 cm of hair from the ends to get rid of split ends.
Step 4. Eat a healthy diet
In this way you will give the necessary nutrients to your body and your hair will have the micro-nutrients useful for growing strong and healthy.
Step 5. Protect your hair from environmental factors
- Use hats, scarves, braids or buns and apply sunscreen.
- Decrease the frequency of shampoos and use only alcohol-free products.
- Avoid putting your hair in contact with heat sources. If you use a hairdryer try to use it at the minimum temperature and, if possible, let your hair dry naturally in the air.
- Wear a swim cap when swimming in pools with chlorine-treated water and rinse your hair thoroughly (even if you've swum in the sea).
Step 6. Treat your hair with conditioners, restorative products and / or natural oils
This will reduce the likelihood of split ends coming back.
Advice
- Use heat-resistant products when styling your hair. Avoid applying heat rollers directly to your hair without first applying gel or mousse to protect it.
- Do not comb or brush wet hair. Wait until they are dry to style them and remove any knots.
- Avoid using shampoos that contain alcohol as it dries in contact with the air. Use shampoos that contain natural ingredients. Also, too numerous washes with harsh shampoos cause the ends of your hair to dry out. Do not have more than three shampoos a week: it is always better to wash your hair every other day. Don't use hot water to wash your hair. DO NOT scrub your hair excessively when drying it - rather try to pat it dry or let it dry naturally in the sun. Do not brush or skate your hair when wet, unless it is a wide-toothed comb to use starting from the bottom and moving upwards.
- Apply a few drops of serum when styling your hair to reduce friction.
