The best way to get rid of a double chin is to follow a diet and exercise, but if you don't have the time and want to see results right away, there are a few tricks you can do to hide or minimize it quickly.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Wear the Right Clothes and Accessories
Step 1. Choose sweaters with low or wide necks
The low-cut sweaters frame the neck and face and tend to draw attention to the double chin. To shift the focus from there, opt for V-shaped or deeper necks. The idea is to keep the neckline as far away from the chin as possible.
- If you are wearing a shirt, leave the first 2-3 buttons unbuttoned.
- Deep necklines are better than wide ones, because they divert attention away from the chin better. However, if you feel uncomfortable with a plunging neckline, a wide one (such as a bateau or rectangular) is always better than a crew neck.
Step 2. Avoid long, dangling earrings
Small earrings are fine, but if you wear large pendants that reach up to the jaw, you will draw attention to that part of the face - and, of course, to the chin.
A pair of the right earrings can distract attention from the chin. Choose them small and short in different styles and sizes. Glitter illuminate the face, while larger but not long earrings draw attention to cheeks and eyes
Step 3. Choose necklaces and scarves that distract attention
A necklace or scarf that is too thick will draw attention to the double chin, while a long one or a thin scarf will draw attention to the chest. People usually focus on the end of an accessory, so the further down the necklace or scarf comes, the further away it will be from the double chin.
- Avoid choker or collar necklaces and all short ones. Long, beaded necklaces that go all the way to the breast are the best choice, especially if the beads are small around the neck and get thicker as they go down.
- If you choose a scarf, get a patterned one and opt for light materials, such as silk. Avoid heavy, chunky scarves.
Step 4. Choose a long tie rather than a bow tie
For guys with double chins, choosing the right tie for an occasion can make the difference. The bow ties hug the neck and draw attention to the area under the face. Long ties, on the other hand, draw attention downwards, away from the chin.
A normal tie is usually recommended rather than a very fine one. A normal width tie is in fact more balanced, while thin ones can make your face, chin and neck appear too large
Method 2 of 4: Using Makeup
Step 1. Use contouring
Contouring is the art of applying different shades of foundation to create shadows and lines on the face, apparently changing its shape.
- Apply a foundation of the same shade as your skin on your face, from the hairline to the neck. Blend it well.
- Choose a second foundation, 2 shades darker. Apply it to your chin and jaw. Use a brush or foundation sponge, or your fingers, to blend it very well and evenly.
Step 2. Apply bronzer
Choose an opaque bronzer and apply it on the neckline, at the base of the neck. Do not apply it on the chin.
- Avoid earth shimmer as it is unnatural.
- If you apply the earth on the cheeks, use the same one you used on the neck. This way the makeup will look more natural.
Step 3. Lips must be natural
When choosing lipstick and gloss, opt for a nude color. The lips are in fact close to the chin, so if you stand out, you will also draw attention to the double chin.
- Apply lip balm, then apply nude lipstick or gloss.
- Matte colors are preferable to bright or glossy ones.
- If you want to make up your lips a little more, you can use a lip pencil before applying lipstick or gloss. The pencil should be the same color as your natural lips.
Step 4. Focus on the eyes
Use eyeliner, eyeshadow and mascara to enhance your eyes. The make-up must in fact draw attention to the eyes and distract it from the chin.
- Make up your eyes, but don't overdo it. For daytime makeup, use nude eyeshadows, blend them well and apply mascara in moderation.
- For an evening makeup, you can go further. Try the smokey eye style, using eye shadows and eyeliner, and lots of volumizing black mascara.
Method 3 of 4: Change Hairstyle
Step 1. Go for a helmet
A short bob cut will have a lifting effect on the face. Short hair lightens the part around the chin and neck.
- Make sure the hair does not curl under the chin. The eyes are often drawn to the ends of the hair, so if the cut frames your double chin, it will emphasize it.
- Long hair is fine if it's not too thick around the neck. If you want to have long hair, make sure it reaches right down to the collarbones.
- We all have different traits, so for the best results, ask your hairdresser for advice on how to best camouflage a double chin with your hair.
Step 2. Tie your hair
If you have them long, style them so that they sit away from the chin.
Tying the hair at the top will draw attention to the upper part of the face, so the face and neck will appear longer and the double chin will be less visible
Step 3. Grow a beard
Men also have the option of hiding the double chin: a beard is an excellent solution. Make sure it's well taken care of. A beard is perfect for hiding a double chin, but a poorly groomed and unkempt beard will make you unpresentable and unkempt.
You can take advantage of this trick even if you don't want too long a beard. Extend the shave up to the neck, letting the short beard create a deep shadow. This trick will make your neck longer, and thus reduce the visibility of the double chin
Method 4 of 4: Photo Tricks
Step 1. Use objects
One of the best ways to hide a double chin when taking a photo is to literally hide it behind something. It's not the best, but if they're taking a picture of you and you don't have time to prepare, it's a quick fix.
- Place your hands under your mouth and in front of your chin to cover the lower part of your face.
- Hide behind someone taller so that their shoulder hides part of your face and neck.
- Use whatever item at your disposal is large enough to be able to hide behind it naturally.
Step 2. Use the zoom
If you don't mind having a very close portrait, ask the person to zoom in or put the camera as close to your face as possible.
Your face must be in the center and the other parts must remain outside. If a gap was left above and to the sides of the face in the photo, but the chin was cut off, it is evident that the photographer did not do a good job and tried to hide something
Step 3. Look at the goal
Your gaze must be on the same level as the camera. Raise your head a little and move it a little to the right or left, to camouflage the double chin.
- Another good idea is to tense the jaw and neck muscles. Do this by pressing your tongue against your hard palate. You won't be able to show off a dazzling smile, but it will still be natural.
- You can also lengthen your neck by sending your shoulders back slightly.
- Another trick is to slightly tilt your head towards someone or something tall. In this way, the photograph will look more harmonious.
Step 4. Edit the photo (moderately)
Nowadays photos can be digitally edited, double minds included. However, this process is not easy. You can minimize the double chin, but if you try to get rid of it altogether people will notice the trick.
