Vitamin C is a substance well known for its immune-boosting properties. However, it is also an essential nutrient responsible for collagen production. Vitamin C and collagen are effective in rejuvenating the skin by regenerating damaged cells and making the skin firm and supple. You can easily make your own specific vitamin C anti-aging cream at home by following one of the two suggested methods.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using Vegetable Glycerin
Step 1. Dissolve the vitamin C powder with distilled water
Mix half a teaspoon of vitamin C powder with 1 tablespoon of distilled water in a small container. Make sure you mix the ingredients well until the powder is completely dissolved to avoid a grainy dough.
- Use only distilled water, not filtered or tap water.
- This is because the high levels of oxygen in tap water can degrade ingredients quickly.
- Note that the mixture of water and vitamin C is only effective for 2 weeks when stored in the fridge; beyond this time it must be eliminated.
Step 2. Add vegetable glycerin to the vitamin C blend
Its function is to make the solution smoother and moisturize the skin. Put in 2 tbsp. If glycerin is already present in the original mixture, you should consider putting in less water.
- In this case, the mixture should be prepared with 1 teaspoon of distilled water instead of 1 tbsp.
- Keep in mind that when glycerin is already included the mixture will keep for a month.
Step 3. Pour the serum into an amber glass bottle for pharmaceutical use
Now you can keep your vitamin C-based cream. Put it in the refrigerator to preserve its effectiveness and prevent it from degrading.
Dark bottles are best, because exposing vitamin C to light reduces its potency and causes it to oxidize quickly, making it less effective
Method 2 of 2: Use an Almond Oil Base
Step 1. Make a blend of vitamin C and distilled water
Combine half a teaspoon of vitamin C with 5 teaspoons of distilled water in a glass jar. Mix well, as vitamin C takes time to dissolve.
Stir frequently until the mixture dissolves completely and no grainy particles remain
Step 2. Add 3 teaspoons of almond oil
This oil has multiple benefits, it protects the skin from sun damage, rejuvenates it, softens it and reduces scarring, inflammation and irritation.
Almond oil is rich in vitamins A, B, and E which are excellent for skin health
Step 3. Add half a teaspoon of olive oil to the mixture
This oil is rich in vitamin E, which helps moisturize the skin and fights free radicals and irritation.
Step 4. Add 3 drops of geranium essential oil
It has the properties of reducing the appearance of scars, improving blood circulation in the skin, toning it and helping new cells to regenerate. Geranium comes from a plant called Pelargonium, which is often used to treat many skin problems.
Geranium oil is classified as an antiseptic, astringent, tonic, and anti-bacterial
Step 5. Also add 3 drops of lavender essential oil
Lavender oil soothes the skin very well and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the face.
Lavender contains phytochemicals, linalool and linalyl acetate that improve overall skin health
Step 6. Add 2 tablespoons of beeswax to the mixture
This provides anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral benefits. Creams, lotions, or soaps that contain beeswax can greatly improve dry, rough skin.
It can reduce the effects of skin aging, especially wrinkles
Step 7. Add ¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil
It is an important antioxidant because it protects cell membranes and prevents damage to associated enzymes. Vitamin E helps to inactivate free radicals, thus reducing any damage and consequently aging of the skin.
Applying vitamin E to the skin can reduce the damage caused by sun exposure and limit the production of cancer cells
Step 8. Finally add 1 tablespoon of shea butter
This substance is also known as an all natural vitamin A cream. It is known for being an excellent moisturizer and ideal for fighting dry skin. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties, shea butter is praised as a perfect anti-aging cream.
- The main causes of aging are inflammation and sun damage.
- Hence, the damage-reversing properties of vitamin A can be effective in reducing wrinkles and renewing collagen.
Step 9. Mix all the oils in the mixture and let it simmer
Place the glass jar in a pot filled with 7.5-10 cm of water and let the mixture cook. Mix all ingredients thoroughly to create a smooth, easy-to-apply dough.
- Let the jar sit without a lid until the ingredients have dissolved.
- Stir occasionally.
- When the mixture has melted and is uniform, pour it into a glass jar.
- Let it sit at room temperature until the cream solidifies.
Step 10. Transfer the cream to a pharmaceutical bottle or keep it in the jar for storage
When it has solidified, you can decide whether to put it in a specific jar or leave it in the same container, which should still be kept in the refrigerator.
Vitamin C cream will only keep for 2 weeks
Step 11. Apply it and see the effects
Once you've made your vitamin C cream, apply a small amount to your skin to try it out, as some people are very sensitive to ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
Warnings
- If you use a buffered form of vitamin C, know that it will make your pillows and sheets orange. It is best to use a plastic spoon to avoid a potential reaction with some metal.
- A concentrated solution of vitamin C can burn a little if you're not used to it, but it doesn't cause any harm. Basically it is vitamin C that acts on the skin. Simply apply a moisturizing lotion afterwards to soothe the effect.
