Whether your hair is brown, blonde or red, you have the opportunity to emphasize the lightest natural highlights. The sun allows you to lighten them easily and effectively, but if you are in a hurry, there are other natural methods to accentuate the golden tones of your hair. Learn to use the most common household products to achieve beautiful highlights.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Using Lemon Juice
Step 1. Make lemon juice
Cut the lemons in half, use a juicer or your hands to squeeze them, and collect the juice in a bowl. Press as many lemons as you can, especially if you have long hair.
- You can also add some cinnamon and conditioner for more noticeable highlights.
- Remove the seeds so they don't clog the spray bottle's nebulizer.
- Avoid using bottled lemon juice. Contains preservatives that are not good for the hair.
- The precise amount of lemons varies depending on the length of the hair.
Step 2. Combine lemon juice and water in a spray bottle
You need to use two parts of juice and one part of water. Measure how much juice you pressed and add the amount of water you need based on the above proportions. For example, if you have two cups of lemon juice, add one of water. Shake the spray bottle to combine these two ingredients.
If you are using a used bottle, wash it thoroughly before pouring in the lemon juice. Avoid using a container that may contain traces of toxic chemicals
Step 3. Spray the solution on the hair
Focus on the areas you intend to lighten. You can spray it all over your hair or focus on a few strands, depending on the result you want to achieve.
- If you want to apply it more precisely, dip a cotton ball in the solution and dab it on the strands you want to lighten.
- The more lemon juice you apply, the lighter your hair will be.
Step 4. Sit in the sun for it to act
The lightening action of lemon juice is activated in combination with the sun's rays. Try exposing yourself to the sun 3 or 4 times a day. Each session should last 1-2 hours.
- Be sure to protect your face and body by applying sunscreen and wearing appropriate clothing while you expose yourself to direct sunlight.
- There is no precise time interval between one application and another. Just get in the sun when you feel ready to go out.
Step 5. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner
Rinse out the lemon juice solution. Then wash your head with moisturizing products. When your hair is dry, you will notice lighter strands.
Method 2 of 4: Using Chamomile
Step 1. Prepare a jug of chamomile tea
Use dried chamomile flowers or 3-4 sachets to get a pretty strong chamomile. Once the infusion is finished, let it cool down. Since you will have to apply it to your scalp, it shouldn't be so hot that it burns your hands.
Step 2. Wet your hair with chamomile tea
Stand over the sink and pour it all over your hair if you want to completely lighten it. Alternatively, apply it to just a few strands.
Step 3. Sit in the sun for it to act
Leave it in place by exposing your head to the sun. There is no specific time frame for this step, although the longer you wait, the better the results.
Step 4. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner
Rinse the chamomile tea away. Then wash your head with moisturizing products. When the hair is dry, you will notice a slight difference and some lighter highlights.
Step 5. Repeat the process
It is unlikely that with chamomile you will have noticeable results from the first application. Usually, it lightens the hair gradually. Maybe you should use this method for a few days in a row if you want to get the results you want.
Method 3 of 4: Using Honey
Step 1. Mix the honey and water in a bowl
Exposed to air, honey gradually releases hydrogen peroxide, so it's great for lightening your hair. Pour 1 tablespoon of honey and 240ml of water into a bowl. Use a whisk to mix these two ingredients together until you have an even mixture.
Step 2. Apply it to your hair
Decide if you want to lighten all of them or just some strands. You can pour the honey and water mixture all over your head or just spread it on a few clumps.
To lighten individual strands, use a brush or cotton swab. In this way, you will apply the sun mixture on the areas you want to treat
Step 3. Leave it on overnight
If you want to lighten your entire hair, wear a cap and let the mixture work while you sleep. If you don't want to leave it on overnight, keep it for 30-60 minutes. However, in the first case, you will get more noticeable results.
Step 4. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner
Rinse the honey off after leaving it on. You'll probably have to use some energy, as it's sticky. Once dry, the hair should look lighter. Repeat the process if you want to lighten them further.
Method 4 of 4: Using Henna
Step 1. Make sure henna is the right choice
Usually, it gives the hair a reddish brown hue. If your natural color is very dark, it will probably lighten it by a few tones. However, if your hair is already light, henna can actually darken it. Use it if you are brunette and want red highlights.
Step 2. Make a paste with henna
You should prepare it 12 hours before dyeing. Mix 3 tablespoons of henna powder with enough boiling water to make a firm, creamy paste. To mix, you can use a spoon, wooden stick, or similar tool. Put the mixture in a safe place and let it cool.
Step 3. Prepare to apply
Henna stains skin and clothing, so wear an old long-sleeved shirt and gloves to protect your hands. Spread a cream on your neck and hairline to avoid staining these areas.
Step 4. Spread the mixture on the hair
Wear gloves when doing this. Apply it all over your head or just on the strands you want to lighten. Proceed carefully, trying to cover all the hair or tufts that you have identified. When you're done, cover your head with a plastic cap to prevent the henna from drying out quickly.
Step 5. Leave the mixture on for two to three hours
After this time, remove the cap and apply the conditioner to the hair. Rinse off the henna and conditioner before using the shampoo and blow dry your hair as usual.
Advice
- When applying any type of mixture to your hair, place a towel over your shoulders to protect your skin and clothing from any stains.
- Since most of these methods require a very long application, which sometimes lasts all night, plan ahead. You may want to lighten your hair when you don't have a lot of commitments.
