The colors of the tricks change with the fashions and the seasons. The newly released shade may not be right for you, so how to avoid taking risks when buying makeup? Either you get a professional make-up artist's advice on choosing the best colors for your skin, or you learn how to do it yourself.
Steps
Method 1 of 6: Discover Your Undertone
Step 1. Put on a white shirt and look in the mirror
Make sure you are in natural light or incandescent light, as yellow or neon lights would reflect off your skin. Now try to understand if it seems to you that you have a skin that tends to yellow-red (warm tones) or to blue-pink (cold tones). The undertone is not the color of the skin, but the hue under the skin that reflects or comes out against the white. Skin undertone is often simply referred to as hue, referring to color. There are many skin colors, but the undertone can only be of two types: warm or cold. Once you know your undertone, you can choose your makeup colors.
Method 2 of 6: Assess Your Skin Color
Step 1. Decide which category of leather you fall into:
light, medium, olive or dark. People with the same undertone don't always have the same skin color as well. For example, you might have fair skin with cool undertones, but also fair skin with warm undertones. Even if you have dark skin, you can have both cool (blue) and warm (yellow) undertones. It largely depends on your ethnicity and genes. Maybe you don't even fit into a single skin color category, in fact many people are halfway there. However, understanding the closest category will help you find a color palette more quickly.
Method 3 of 6: Foundation
Step 1. Choose a foundation that is exactly your skin color
You may need to change color in the summer and winter if your skin is much darker in the summer than the rest of the year.
Step 2. Test the foundation
The best area to do this is between the cheek and jaw. The foundations are yellow or blue based. Some brands have names on their labels such as "cool beige" or "warm honey" to indicate the undertone for which the foundation was designed.
- If you have a cool undertone, choose a light blue or pink foundation.
- If you have a warm undertone, choose one with a yellow base.
- If you have dark skin, be careful that the foundation does not make your skin gray. In that case, try one of a different color, or one with a yellow base.
Method 4 of 6: Blush
Step 1. Choose a blush that looks good on your skin and blends with it
Blush is used to highlight cheeks and should never look like a streak of color, so choose one that doesn't contrast too much with your skin and is your undertone.
- People with very dark skin should choose a plum blush if they have a cool undertone and an orange-bronze blush if they have a warm undertone.
- If you have olive skin, brown or auburn blushes will work for you.
- People with intermediate colored skin should use apricot, coral or peach blushes.
- Pink blushes work well with fair and cold skin.
- If you have fair skin but warm undertones, try a beige or yellow blush.
Method 5 of 6: Eyeshadow
Step 1. Choose a color that matches your skin color and emphasize your eyes
- Those with warm undertones can wear shades of gold, such as green, brown, gold and pink.
- If you have a cool undertone, choose blue, gray, silver, pink or plum eyeshadows. Choose an eyeshadow that is right for your undertone, skin color and eye color.
- People with dark skin and eyes can wear bold eyeshadows better.
Method 6 of 6: Lipstick
Step 1. Test the lipstick on a white piece of paper to find out which color is predominant
- Warm reds and browns, as well as lighter shades like champagne, are good for skin with warm undertones.
- Purple, pink, or clear gloss are good for cold, dark skin.
- Those with olive skin can choose warm browns, beiges, reds and pinks.
- Those with fair and warm skin can use lipsticks on pink and red, while those with fair and cold skin can use purple or cold pink.
Advice
- People with light skin and eyes should avoid dark eyeliner and mascara and go for brown ones instead.
- A new hair color can alter the impression of your undertone. When you radically change color, or go from cold to warm, make sure your makeup looks good with the new color too.
