If the prices of Swiffer products baffle you, you certainly don't have to keep buying them. You can create the refills of the dust cloths yourself: it's simple and you will save a lot of money. How you do it? Just get some soft chenille socks. You can use them and rewash them, so they will be as good as new. All you have to do is open the sock drawer, take the ones you no longer use and recycle them.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Finding the Right Pair of Socks
Step 1. Evaluate the size of the Swiffer broom
As there are many different types sold, you will need socks that can cover this tool. This means that you may need to buy men's socks, which are larger, or a particularly elastic pair of socks.
Step 2. Consider how many pairs of socks you will need
One should be enough for two good cleanups, but maybe you're one of those people who doesn't have the time or the inclination to do laundry every couple of days. If you have to clean the floors daily but don't want to do laundry more than once or twice a week, you should consider buying more than one pair of socks.
Step 3. Examine the material the sock is made from to make sure it is 100% chenille
While cotton might be fine, you want a material that will attract and collect dirt from the floor. A fiber mix will not work as effectively.
Part 2 of 2: Making a Homemade Swiffer Broom
Step 1. Open the package of socks (if they are new) and remove the labels
Make sure the stickers and price tags have been removed completely, so as not to interfere with cleaning.
Step 2. Slip a sock into the base of Swiffer's mop
You may need to widen the opening of the sock to fit the base well, so shape it as needed.
Step 3. Use the Swiffer as usual, running it across the floor and corners
If the sock becomes full of dirt and no longer works properly, approach the garbage can and wipe away any hair or dirt that has collected at the bottom with your hand. Keep using it until you finish cleaning.
Step 4. Remove the sock from the Swiffer mop and wash it as usual
Avoid using fabric softener, as it may reduce the electrostatic properties of the chenille.

Try to remove excess dirt from the sock before putting it in the washing machine.
