When people first buy a pair of Timberland boots they often overlook the first thing they need to do to keep them looking their best. This simple process is a preventative measure to make sure they always remain in perfect condition. The weather is unpredictable, just like the situations you may encounter when spending time outdoors; Timberland brand boots are expensive and you never know when you might damage them. These shoes - and all those in soft leather - represent an investment, so it is in your best interest to follow the instructions described in this article to avoid damaging them.
Steps
Step 1. Take the boots and scrub the surface, rubber sole included, with dry paper towels to remove any dust or dirt particles
At this stage it is not necessary to remove the laces.
Step 2. Find a well-ventilated area in which to perform the waterproofing procedure
Step 3. Hold the can of product upright
Spray keeping a distance of 15-25 cm from the boots and cover the entire surface without neglecting the sole, spreading a light and even layer. This operation temporarily darkens the material.
Step 4. To maximize protection, leave footwear undisturbed in a well-ventilated room for 4 hours
Step 5. Apply a second layer of product
Step 6. Wait for them to dry for 24-48 hours
In the meantime, make sure they stay in a cool place.
Step 7. Add another layer of waterproofing product
Again, wait at least 24 hours for the material to dry; this procedure ensures maximum protection against water stains.
Step 8. Clean your boots properly and repeat the above sequence every few months or whenever they need a "beauty treatment"
Advice
- You should repeat the procedure a couple of times a year to keep your boots looking their best.
- This spray can only be used on leather footwear.
Warnings
- Store the waterproofing spray away from fire as it is highly flammable.
- Do not allow footwear to get wet during the procedure, otherwise permanent water stains may form.
- Don't overdo the spray; otherwise you can damage the boots instead of protecting them.
- Do this work in a well-ventilated place; inhaling the waterproofing product is harmful to health.
