A "slurpee" (pronounced: slurpi) is an ice-based drink, originally created by the ICEE Company but sold in the United States by 7-Eleven grocery stores. Similar well-known drinks are "Froster" and "Slush Puppy". They are widely consumed in the United States, Australia and Canada. In fact, Winnipeg, in the Canadian province of Manitoba, is the slurpee capital of the world for the past 12 years, because it has maintained the highest per capita consumption of slurpees in the world. The slurpees are sold in over 25 flavors and are made with popular soda pop products such as Coca Cola, Diet Pepsi and Mountain Dew. This article will tell you how to make a Coca Cola slurpee.
Ingrediants
- 4 cups of ice
- 2 cups of water
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 can of Coca Cola
Steps
Step 1. Pour 4 cups (946g) of ice into a blender
Blend until the ice is well crushed. It may need to be blended several times, depending on the size and power of your blender.
Step 2. Pour the crushed ice into a container and place it in the freezer, it will be used later
Step 3. Pour 2 cups (473ml) of water into the empty blender
Step 4. Add 1/4 - 1/2 cup (48-96 g) of sugar to the water
If you wish to limit your sugar intake, feel free to exclude sugar from the recipe. The slurpees are traditionally very sweet and the addition of sugar gives a richer flavor to the drink, preventing it from being excessively diluted by the ice
Step 5. Blend the mixture thoroughly
Step 6. Pour 1 can of Coke (355ml) into the blender and blend for 10 seconds
Step 7. Take the crushed ice from the freezer and pour it into the blender
The mixture may become extremely fizzy as you add the ice, so wait for the fizzing effect to subside and blend for 15 seconds.
Make sure there is enough ice to cover the Coke. If not, add more ice and blend again until well chopped
Step 8. Pour the drink into a glass, insert a straw and drink your homemade slurpee right away
The dose of this recipe will serve approximately 4 people.
Advice
- You can also prepare a Coca Cola slurpee in an ice cream maker. Pour 4 cold cans of Coke (1.5 liters) into an ice cream maker and blend for at least 20 minutes before serving.
- For a more traditional flavor, adjust the slurpee recipe by replacing the Coke with a packet of flavored, sugar-free Kool-Aid.
