Almond milk is an alternative to dairy products low in salts and sugars and without cholesterol. It is slightly lighter than cow's milk and has a mild nutty aroma. You can buy almond milk at the supermarket or make it at home. Many companies make flavored almond milk, such as chocolate or vanilla, but it contains a lot of added sugars. If you're used to cow's milk, getting used to the taste of almond milk can be difficult. For a more appetizing flavor, you can flavor almond milk at home. This article will tell you how.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Flavor the Almond Milk
Step 1. Buy plain or unsweetened almond milk to flavor it yourself
Ready-made chocolate or vanilla almond milk contains a lot of sugar (more than 20g per serving).
Step 2. Sweeten the almond milk with maple syrup, honey, agave nectar or granulated sugar
Mix 15ml of your chosen sweetener for every 0.95 liters of unsweetened almond milk. Mix carefully, until the lumps dissolve. If you want, add more sweetener.
Step 3. Add one of the following flavors to the milk, according to your taste
The amount of flavorings to add is as desired, starting with the following doses. For example, you can add enough flavorings to completely hide the flavor of almond milk or to enhance it.
- Add 5 ml of vanilla extract for every 0.95 liters of almond milk. Double the dose if you prefer a more intense vanilla flavor. Mix it carefully.
- Enhances the flavor of the almond by adding the almond extract. Add 5 ml of almond extract for every 0.95 liters of milk. Mix it carefully.
- Add 15g of sugar or agave syrup and 14g of cocoa powder to 0.95 liters of unsweetened almond milk for a chocolate-flavored milk. Also add a pinch of salt. Stir carefully until the ingredients dissolve. Reduce the amount of sugar if using pure or sweetened almond milk.
- Add 15g sugar or agave syrup, 1.3g cinnamon, 0.5g nutmeg, and 0.25g ground clove to 0.95 liters of unsweetened almond milk to make a latte spiced chai. If the milk is already sweetened, do not add the sugar. Mix it carefully. The more you leave the spices to infuse, the more intense the flavor will be.
Method 2 of 3: Flavoring Almond Milk with Fruit
Step 1. Pour 0.95 liters of unsweetened almond milk into a blender
Step 2. Add 150-300g of sliced fruit
Strawberries, mangoes, raspberries, blueberries and peaches are perfect for this recipe. Remove the seeds and pits from the fruit before adding them.
Step 3. Add 30-50ml agave syrup or honey to the mixture
Step 4. Add a pinch of salt and blend for two minutes
Step 5. Drain the milk with cheesecloth and pour it into a bowl
This way, you will get rid of the seeds or pulp of the fruit.
Step 6. Store milk in airtight containers and in the refrigerator for up to three days
Method 3 of 3: Infuse Almond Milk
Step 1. Pour 237-473ml of almond milk into a glass jar
Glass jars for preserves are ideal for this purpose. Fill the container to the top to reduce the amount of oxygen.
Step 2. Add one of the following ingredients before resealing the jar
- Break three cinnamon sticks and dip them in milk.
- Chop 67g of fresh mint by rolling it between your fingers. Put it in the milk and mix.
- Chop 67g of rose petals by rolling them between your fingers. Put them directly into the milk and mix.
- Scrape the seeds from a vanilla bean and put them in the milk. Mix it carefully.
Step 3. Close the jars with the airtight seal
Step 4. Put them in the refrigerator for a day
Remove them from the fridge and drain the milk in a metal colander to remove plant or spice residues.
