Ice shot glasses are an original idea for serving drinks in the hot months. Instead of simply adding ice cubes to the drink, the glass itself becomes the iced element of the drink! It's fun, easy to make, and always surprises your guests, especially on warm evenings.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: With the molds ready
Step 1. Purchase molds that are shaped like shot glasses
You can find them in well-stocked household goods stores or online.
Step 2. Fill the molds with your favorite liquid
For a classic glass, plain water is used. However, you can indulge yourself and try orange juice, cola or energy drinks if you want a colored glass (also read the three-layer method). If you plan to serve alcohol, consider matching colors (unless it's a clear drink, in which case any color is fine). You can also choose to create the glass with the ingredients of the cocktail leaving out the alcoholic ones, which will be poured into the glass itself.
Step 3. If desired, place a popsicle stick or lollipop in the bottom of each glass
It will become a "handle" that guests can use to avoid touching the glass directly, as it will become a bit sticky as it melts. We recommend that you buy lollipops with the candy wrapped in plastic for hygiene reasons.
Step 4. Put the molds in the freezer
Step 5. When they are frozen, remove them
The ice glass should come out immediately, and you need to use it right away.
Step 6. Fill it with your favorite soda
Of course, just pour in a cold liquid to avoid speeding up the glass melting process.
Step 7. Serve the drinks
Method 2 of 3: With Plastic Cups
Step 1. Get a clean plastic or paper cup
Fill it with your favorite liquid. As previously explained, you can use plain water, orange juice or energy drinks (for a colored version). Alternatively, use a non-alcoholic version of the cocktail you want to serve.
Step 2. Get another shot glass
Remember that it should have a capacity of around 45ml. You can get yourself a plastic shot glass so you can be sure of the volume.
Step 3. Grease the outer walls of the shot glass with oil
You can skip this step if the glass is waxed. Use only very little oil, just a light brush stroke.
Step 4. Push the small glass inside the large one and fill the latter with water
Throw away the excess water so that the liquid level remains flush with the edge of the small glass. Use duct tape with a strong seal or a heavy object (such as a clean rock or bag full of gravel) to keep the small glass in place (otherwise it will start floating).
Step 5. Place the mold in the freezer until the water freezes
Once the water is solid, remove the mold from the freezer. Remove the small glass. If it is waxed or you have anointed it, you shouldn't have any difficulties
Step 6. Run some hot water on the outer walls of the large glass
This will make the process of extracting the ice glass easier. Note: Not you have to use boiling water otherwise the ice will break. The water must be at a slightly higher temperature than ambient.
Step 7. Fill the glass with ice with your favorite drink
Obviously, pour only cold liquids to prevent the glass from melting.
Step 8. Serve the sodas
Step 9. Return the glass of ice back to the freezer until you are ready to use it
Finally, fill it with soda and serve it to your friends.
Method 3 of 3: Layered Glass of Ice
Step 1. Follow the instructions of the method with ready-made molds
However, instead of using water or a single color liquid, create different layers. For example, to create a green, orange and transparent glass, follow these steps:
- Pour 1/3 of the mold capacity of the green liquid and place it in the freezer.
- Add 1/3 of the mold capacity of clear liquid and freeze it a second time.
- Finally pour the last third of the orange liquid and put the mold back in the freezer.
Step 2. Remove the cookie cutter from the freezer and remove the glass of ice
Now the three layers form a beautiful shot glass. It took a little more work but it was worth it! Now serve the drinks as explained in the previous sections!
