Through sweating the body detoxifies in a natural way. A bath in hot water promotes the cutaneous release of toxins. Detox baths also help relieve muscle pain. This ancient remedy helps the body eliminate toxins and promotes the absorption of useful minerals and nutrients by the skin. If you suffer from skin problems, you want to detox your body of toxins, but even if you just want to improve your overall health, learn how to prepare a detox bath in the comfort of your own home.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Prepare the Body
Step 1. Prepare the body
The minerals used will help release toxins from your skin, triggering a process that could make your skin quite dehydrated, so don't forget to thoroughly hydrate your body before soaking in the hot water. The advice is to drink a glass of water at room temperature.
Step 2. Get the ingredients you need
Everything you need can be bought at the supermarket and herbalist's shop. The ingredients of a detox bath are:
- Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate)
- Sodium bicarbonate
- Sea salt or Himalayan salt
- Organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar
- Essential oils of your choice (optional)
- Ginger powder (optional)
- Skin brush
Step 3. Brush the skin dry
The skin is our largest organ, as well as the first line of defense against chemicals and bacteria. By promoting the elimination of dead skin cells, you also help remove these harmful substances. Dry brushing also improves the ability to eliminate waste from the lymphatic system.
- Use a dry body brush with a long handle to allow you to brush even the hardest to reach parts.
- When choosing a body brush, make sure that the sensation of contact with the skin is pleasant. The brush treatment does not have to be painful.
- Begin brushing the dry skin of your legs, starting at the feet and working your way up to the groin, one leg at a time.
- Making sweeping movements up towards the heart, brushing the area of the abdomen, chest and finally the back.
- Move to the arms and brush them making movements that from the fingers go up towards the shoulders and armpits.
- Even after a single brush treatment, your skin should feel smoother.
Step 4. Massage your lymphatic system
Lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, and organs make up the lymphatic system, which is an important part of your immune system. Lymph nodes are responsible for eliminating microorganisms and filtering bacteria from the bloodstream. With a five-minute massage, you can stimulate the lymphatic system and improve its detoxifying action.
- Place your fingers under the ears, on either side of the neck.
- Relax your hands and gently pull the skin towards the lower nape of the neck.
- Repeat the movement 10 times, taking care to move gradually downwards with each repetition so that the movement ends up extending from the area below the ears to that of the upper shoulders.
- Gently massage the skin towards the collarbones.
- Repeat 5 or more times, as desired.
Step 5. Learn about the effects of the detox treatment
Whenever you subject your body to a cleansing process, you expose it to flu-like symptoms, such as nausea and headaches, due to the release of toxins. Have a liter of water on hand and sip it slowly during the bath.
To relieve the feeling of nausea, you can add lemon juice to the water
Part 2 of 3: Preparing the Detox Bath
Step 1. Choose the right time of day
Make sure you have at least 40 minutes. Choose a time when you can relax and focus on the detox bath without feeling pressured by subsequent events.
Step 2. Create a relaxing atmosphere
If you wish, dim the lights and light some candles. You can also listen to a playlist of relaxing songs. Take slow, deep breaths to promote a relaxed state of mind.
Step 3. Fill the bathtub with hot water
If possible, use a chlorine removal filter to ensure an ideal result. Add Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate). Bathing in Epsom salts helps restore magnesium levels in the body, counteracting hypertension. Sulfate expels toxins from the body and encourages the formation of proteins in brain tissues and joints.
- For babies whose body weight is less than 27kg, add 100g of salts to a standard-sized tub.
- For babies whose body weight is between 27-145kg, add 200g of salts to a standard-sized tub.
- For people with a body weight greater than 45 kg, 400 g or more of salts in a standard size tub.
Step 4. Add 200-400g of baking soda
Baking soda is known for its purifying and antifungal properties. It also helps to make the skin very soft.
Step 5. Add 25g of sea or Himalayan salt
Composed of magnesium, potassium, calcium chloride and bromide, sea salt promotes the restoration of essential minerals for skin metabolism.
- Magnesium helps you fight stress and water retention, it also slows the aging process and calms the nervous system.
- Calcium effectively prevents water retention, stimulates circulation and strengthens nails and bones.
- Potassium gives the body a burst of energy and promotes the rebalancing of skin moisture.
- Bromide relaxes and stretches the muscles.
- Sodium is important for the balance of the lymphatic system, thus favoring the proper functioning of the immune system.
Step 6. Add 60ml of apple cider vinegar
Rich in vitamins, minerals and enzymes, apple cider vinegar is one of the most effective ingredients when you want to detoxify the body of bacteria and stimulate its immune system.
Step 7. If desired, add aromatherapy oils
Some oils, such as lavender and ylang ylang, have therapeutic properties. Tea tree and eucalyptus oils promote the detoxifying process. For a full-sized tub, about 20 drops of oil will suffice.
- If you prefer, you can use fresh herbs, including mint leaves, lavender flowers, chamomile or any other herb, depending on your mood.
- Adding ginger can help eliminate toxins through sweating. Ginger raises your body temperature, so dose it carefully. Depending on your degree of sensitivity, you can add between 1 tablespoon and 40 g.
Step 8. Spread the ingredients into the water
You can use a foot to move the water in the tub. Note that bubbles will form when the baking soda comes into contact with the vinegar.
The salt crystals do not need to dissolve completely in order to enter the tub
Part 3 of 3: Take a Detox Bath
Step 1. Immerse yourself in the water for 20-40 minutes
Remember to sip the water at your disposal and be careful not to overheat your body.
- Drink the liter of water prepared earlier during the first twenty minutes of the bath.
- Within minutes of stepping into the tub, you will notice that you will start sweating. Your body will have started the process of expelling the toxins.
- If you feel too hot, add cold water to the tub to help establish a comfortable temperature.
Step 2. Relax
Meditation is a great way to calm the body during a detox bath. Breathe through your nose as you relax your neck, face, hands, and abdomen. Progressively relax and stretch all parts of the body. Consciously releasing body tensions will help you relax.
- Leave all unwanted thoughts behind the closed bathroom door. Let go of stress and worries.
- Visualize toxins escaping from the body and being replaced by vitamins and nutrients.
Step 3. Get out of the water slowly
During the detox bath, your body worked hard, so you may feel weak, tired and feel dizzy. Also, the oils and salts may have made the bottom of the tub slippery, so get up slowly and carefully.
As soon as you get out of the water, wrap your body in a soft towel, through sweating you can continue to purify yourself for another couple of hours
Step 4. Rehydrate the body
After undergoing any purification process, it is always necessary to restore body fluids. The advice is to drink an additional liter of water.
Step 5. After the bath, brush the body again
You can use your hands, a sponge or a vegetable bristle brush. Brushing the body will further promote the release of toxins. Make long, sweeping movements towards the heart.
Relax for the rest of the day allowing your body to continue detoxifying
Advice
- Do not eat immediately before the bath or immediately after.
- Before soaking in the water, apply a nourishing mask to your hair and wrap it in a shower cap or towel. Salts, like sea water, can dehydrate them.
- If you wish, rinse the body of Epsom salts; however, note that this is not necessary.
Warnings
- If you are diabetic, hypertensive, pregnant, or have kidney or heart disease, consult your doctor before taking a detox bath.
- Make sure you are familiar with the properties of any additional ingredients in your detox bath. Some herbs can be harmful.
