Sims 2 Apartment Life is the eighth and final expansion of Sims 2 for PC. It offers you exactly what the title suggests: apartments and apartment living. If you own this game and want to know how to make a beautiful apartment like the ones already made, this article is just for you.
Steps
Step 1. Choose what type of apartment you want to create
There are 3 different types of apartments: condominiums, detached houses and connected apartments. The condominiums consist of separate apartments. The detached houses are connected, but have a different garage and roof for each apartment. The connected apartments consist of a single building which contains more than one apartment.
Step 2. Choose a plot for your apartment
Connected apartments should measure 3x3, condos 3x4 and detached houses 5x2. These are just suggestions, but remember that measurements are very important.
Step 3. Enter the cheat mode to build the house
Press Ctrl + Shift + C to activate the cheat screen. Type the following words:
- changelotzoning apartmentbase
- boolProp aptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled false
- "changelotzoning apartmentbase" transforms the plot into an apartment. You can notice the change by observing that the letterbox becomes a multi-mailbox. "boolProp aptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled" false allows you to add doors, walls etc. to your liking.
Step 4. Begin by creating the foundation (optional) and exterior walls
If you choose to build the foundation, don't forget to add the stairs. Avoid boxes and don't make everything too big or too small. Remember that each plot should contain 3-4 apartments, so make sure you choose the right size.
Step 5. Add windows, a door and a roof
Try to arrange the windows all around the apartment, or it will not have enough light. Any type of front door will do, except a carpeted apartment, otherwise the Sims will rent out the entire building. As a roof you can choose real tiles or tiles. To build the roof, click on the corresponding button and drag the cursor where you want. You can select different styles and colors. For the floor, click on the corresponding button and drag the cursor over the area to be covered.
Step 6. Arrange the exterior cladding for the walls
You can choose stones, bricks, panels or whatever you prefer. To do this faster, press Shift before clicking on the walls. You will cover the entire area! Repeat the operation for each floor.
Step 7. Create a living room
All Sims 2 apartments must have a living room. Arrange on the first floor (excluding the foundations) a medium-sized room to which you can add a fireplace, sofas, tables and so on. This will be the main room where your Sims will be. Remember that Sims 2 Apartment Life also includes vending machines for drinks and snacks!
Step 8. Create the walls to define the apartments and add a separate door for each
Step 9. Fill each apartment with walls, wall and floor covers, and base furniture
You can use the wall trick explained earlier for floors as well. Here is a list of the main pieces of furniture to be placed in each apartment:
- Piping: sinks, bathtub / shower, toilet.
- Kitchen: counter, stove, refrigerator.
- Ceiling lights.
- Add some closets too.
Step 10. Create the external environment
You can have a garden, a fence, a play area for children … and even a swimming pool! Be creative: even two or three bushes change the environment. You can also add outdoor lamps and benches.
Advice
- The apartments do not have to be identical to each other!
- The apartments can have one floor or two floors.
- Make sure that no Sims are already living on the plot when you use the "changelotzoning apartmentbase" trick.
- Most non-integrated furniture will disappear when your Sim moves out. Instead, it is kept when other Sims from the city move into the apartment, so if you visit their home you will be able to see the furniture.
- Don't forget the garage for detached houses!
