In this section, you will learn how to create and install symbols in Microsoft Word without having to pull your hair out.
Steps
Step 1. Open Microsoft Word
Step 2. Click "Insert"
Step 3. Click on "Symbols"
Step 4. Click on the "Special Characters" tab in the upper left part
Step 5. Click on "Auto Correction" in the lower left part
Step 6. Look for "Replace" in the center left under all the checked fields
Step 7. On the same line as "Replace", look for "With" and "Text Only", and then "Formatted Text"
Step 8. Click the circle next to "Text Only"
Step 9. Go back and click "Replace", then type a simplified version of your symbol
Step 10. For example, if you want to create:
|>, type / | / in the "Replace" field and: |> in the "Text only" field.
Step 11. Click "Add" and you're done
# Click "Close" twice in both menus.
Step 1. All you have to do is type / | / and Word will automatically create the symbol
[PS: You can type the | symbol pressing Shift and]. Done! You just created your own character.
Advice
- Go to "Tools" and then "AutoCorrect Options …" instead of opening "Symbols" in Word 2003.
- If Microsoft Word 2010 go to Insert Symbol, Select UI Symbol, and scroll until you find the triangle with the exclamation point inside. Done.
