Unfortunately, There is currently no method that allows you to delete a single message on Google Hangouts.
While it can be frustrating, deleting the entire conversation can be a useful trick to get around the problem. You can do this from the Google Hangouts app or website.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Delete a Conversation from the Mobile Application
Step 1. Click on the Google Hangouts icon
It features a green dialogue bubble with white quotation marks inside.
Step 2. Touch and hold the conversation you want to delete
Step 3. Press the ⁝ button
It is located at the top right of the screen. Instead of this button, you may see an icon with three vertical dots.
Step 4. Select Options
If this option doesn't appear, read the next step.
Step 5. Select Delete conversation
This option is found at the bottom of the menu.
- A confirmation message will appear. Click on "Delete" to delete the conversation.
- The conversation will disappear from all your devices, but will continue to be accessible to other users who have participated in the chat.
Method 2 of 2: Delete a Conversation via Computer
Step 1. Open a browser
You can use for example Safari, Chrome, Opera or Firefox.
Step 2. Visit
This will open all Hangouts conversations.
Step 3. Click on the chat you want to delete
The conversation will open in the browser window.
Step 4. Click on
This will open a list of available chat options, including turning notifications on and off, archiving or deleting the conversation, and blocking another participant.
Step 5. Click Delete Conversation
The chat will disappear and a confirmation message will appear.
