This article explains how to download and install the free WhatsApp application for iOS and Android devices and for Windows and Mac computers. After installing WhatsApp on your device, you will need to create an account in order to use it.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: iPhone
Step 1. Access the Apple App Store by clicking the following icon
It features a white "A" on a light blue background.
Step 2. Select the Search tab
It is located in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Tap the search bar at the top of the screen
The virtual keyboard of the device will be displayed at the bottom of the page.
Step 4. Search for the WhatsApp app
Type in the keyword whatsapp and press the blue button Search for located in the lower right corner of the keyboard.
Step 5. Press the Get button
It is located on the right of the wording "WhatsApp Messenger" visible in the center of the screen.

If you have previously installed the WhatsApp app, you will find the icon in place of the "Get" button

Step 6. When prompted, use the Touch ID button to recognize your fingerprints
This way the WhatsApp app will be downloaded and installed on the device.
- If your device does not have Touch ID or if you have not configured this feature to access the App Store, you will need to press the button Install located at the bottom of the screen and enter your Apple ID login password when prompted.
- If the WhatsApp app download starts automatically, skip this step.
Step 7. Wait for the WhatsApp installation to finish
This step should only take a few seconds to complete whether using a Wi-Fi connection or using the device's 4G connection. At the end of the installation you will have to proceed with the configuration of WhatsApp.
If you want to start the application immediately after the download is complete, press the button You open appeared on the right of the wording "WhatsApp Messenger" of the App Store page.
Method 2 of 3: Android devices
Step 1. Access the Google Play Store by clicking the icon
It is characterized by a multicolored triangle facing right.
Step 2. Tap the search bar
It is located at the top of the screen. The virtual keyboard of the device will be displayed.
Step 3. Type the whatsapp keyword
A list will be displayed below the search bar showing all applications that match the criteria you are looking for.
Step 4. Tap on WhatsApp Messenger
It is characterized by the white and green WhatsApp icon and should be visible at the top of the results list that appears. You will be redirected to the Play Store page for the WhatsApp app.
Step 5. Press the Install button
It is green in color and is located on the upper right side of the screen.
Step 6. Press the Accept button when prompted
The WhatsApp application will be downloaded and installed on the Android device.
Step 7. Wait for the WhatsApp installation to finish
This step should only take a few seconds to complete whether using a Wi-Fi connection or using the device's 4G connection. At the end of the installation you will have to proceed with the configuration of WhatsApp.

Method 3 of 3: Computer
Step 1. Log in to the WhatsApp website
Type the following URL https://www.whatsapp.com/download/ into the address bar of the browser of your choice.
- In order to use the WhatsApp version for Windows and Mac, you must first have installed the app on your mobile device and logged into your account.
- The WhatsApp website will automatically recognize the operating system installed on the computer (Windows or macOS).
Step 2. Press the Download button for [OS_name]
It is green in color and is located on the right side of the page. The WhatsApp app installation file will be downloaded to your computer.
The exact wording of the download button varies depending on the operating system installed on your computer
Step 3. Wait for the download of the installation file to finish
This step only takes a few minutes to complete. When the WhatsApp installation file (in EXE format for Windows or DMG for Mac) has been saved on your computer, you can continue.
Step 4. Install WhatsApp
The procedure to follow varies according to the operating system in use:
- Windows: Double-click the file icon WhatsAppSetup, then follow the instructions that appear on the screen. Once the installation is complete, the WhatsApp app will launch automatically.
- Mac: Double-click the icon of the DMG file you just downloaded, then drag the WhatsApp app icon to the folder Applications.
Step 5. Log into your WhatsApp account
Once the WhatsApp installation is complete, you will need to use the smartphone app to scan the QR code that appeared on your computer screen in order to log into your WhatsApp account.
Advice
- WhatsApp also has a web version that can be used via any internet browser. However, in order to log in via the web, you need to scan the QR code generated by the site using the WhatsApp app for iOS or Android devices.
- After downloading and installing WhatsApp, you can configure it using your mobile number and contacts directory.
