Being a caddy is more complex than carrying your golf bag along the 18-hole course. Knowing how to support and help the player requires a solid professional relationship. The player should know that the caddy is prepared, that he knows the game and that he is able to give appropriate advice during the race. These characteristics are only present in a person who is not just a caddy, but a golf enthusiast. Follow these tips to become a caddy for every level and race.
Steps
Step 1. Prepare the golf bag
There are some items the player needs at each hole and it is your responsibility to make sure the bag contains them all. If the player does not have everything they need, the result of the match could be affected.
Check that the bag has the right sticks, new balls, spare gloves, towels, a distance meter, hole maps, insect repellent spray, sunscreen, an umbrella and a first aid kit. You should make sure that there is also a rain suit for both you and the player
Step 2. Learn what the distances of the course are
A caddy must know the distances and maps of each hole, check the maps when necessary, so that he can support the player in choosing the right club.
Knowing the distances, however, is not enough and a good caddy must also be able to evaluate the weather conditions, the conditions and the layout of the competition field
Step 3. Anticipate the player's needs
The best caddy knows what the player needs. Keep his hydration optimal, make sure he is always cool and never sweaty, if possible, and know which club he needs for the next hole.
Step 4. Try to be assertive
Caddies need to have some knowledge and familiarity with the game to do their job best. You can even stop the player before the swing if you don't agree with the choice of club or if the wind changes.
Step 5. Always stay positive
Golf is a game that requires a lot of concentration and a positive mental attitude on the part of the player. If your client has played poorly a couple of holes, your job is to cheer him up, help him stay focused, and offer words of encouragement when he needs it most.
