The best foundation there is for a beautiful makeup? A soft and young skin. If you constantly expose yourself to the sun, your skin can suffer various damages, such as premature aging, wrinkles, sun spots and even skin cancers. But there is good news: sunscreen can be added very easily to make-up. Protecting the skin is mandatory, the beauty is that you can do it while continuing to look gorgeous and flawless.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Apply Sunscreen Under Makeup
Step 1. Choose a sunscreen with SPF 30-50
The abbreviation SPF stands for "sun protection factor" and measures the effectiveness of a product. For daily use, an SPF 30 is more than enough. If you know you will be spending time outdoors and exposing yourself to the sun, choose an SPF 50. It is important to remember one thing: even if you do not expose yourself directly to the sun's rays or burn yourself, the skin still receives the sun's radiation. Do not start using the protection only once you have been badly burned or the first premature wrinkles have appeared!
There are sunscreens on the market that boast of having a higher SPF, which sometimes goes up to 100 or even exceeds this number. However, an SPF above 50 offers few additional benefits
Step 2. Apply it evenly all over your face
Don't forget your ears and neck! Use a generous dose, about half a teaspoon. If you don't feel protected enough, apply more. It's the most important product you'll ever use on your face, so don't skimp. Mirror yourself to make sure you don't overlook any points.
Experiment with different types of sunscreen from a supermarket or perfumery. Some may feel heavy and dense, but there are also light lotions and serums on the market, perfect for those who wear makeup
Step 3. Tap the cream until completely absorbed
Probably the amount of product you use will be more than what you are used to, but keep tapping! If you follow this movement, instead of massaging or rubbing, you will avoid irritating the skin; you will also apply it evenly all over the face. Let it absorb completely for 3-5 minutes before you start wearing makeup.
If you want to use a tinted cream with SPF, apply it after putting on the normal protection. Cosmetics with sun protection factor are not as effective as specific products. Use the tinted cream with SPF to protect yourself even more, but on its own it is not enough
Step 4. Put on your makeup
Replace your powder foundation with a liquid or cream foundation. In this way it will blend in a more natural way with the consistency of the sunscreen and you will avoid the dreaded "mask effect". To have a healthy and tanned complexion, you can use a bronzer and a liquid blush, without exposing yourself to the damage caused by the sun! Do your eyes as usual.
- If you need to find new makeups that suit sunscreen, make this sacrifice. Of course, it will be an expense, but it is minimal if you think about all the advantages that you will derive from it over the years: you will have a compact, young and healthy skin.
- It is not recommended to mix sunscreen with makeup or moisturizers. You can save time, but you always run the risk of products having a negative interaction. You can also dilute the sunscreen and get less coverage.
Part 2 of 2: Reapply the sunscreen on the makeup
Step 1. Sunscreen can only be put on makeup if you need to reapply it, but in any case it is preferable to avoid it
For it to be effective you have to put it on clean skin (in other words before you put on makeup). If you have already put on make-up and need to expose yourself to the sun, you should take off your make-up, apply sunscreen and then, if you want, put on your make-up again.
This can take some time and be annoying, but it's the only way to make sure your sunscreen is truly effective. Take your time to apply it correctly today, and tomorrow you'll save yourself the hassle of hiding wrinkles and sun spots
Step 2. Apply a “physical” sunscreen after putting on your makeup
Most of the filters available on the market are of a chemical type, so the substances contained in the formulation prevent the skin from absorbing the sun's rays. Instead, the physical sunscreen has the function of creating a real barrier between the skin and the sun. Since makeup does not allow the skin to absorb a chemical filter, it will not be effective. A physical protection can do its job perfectly despite the make-up. It's available in powder, cream, or spray form, so choose whichever formulation you find most practical.
Step 3. Use a spray sunscreen
Since you already have makeup on, this product is perfect to avoid ruining your makeup. To apply it correctly, close your eyes and hold your breath. Press the nozzle and spray it all over your face. Use more of it than you think you will need, as it doesn't have the same degree of coverage as a cream or lotion.
- Don't touch your face while it dries or you risk getting patches and it won't protect you well from the sun.
- You can also make a makeup fixing spray with SPF. As recommended with spray sunscreen, it shouldn't be used as the only form of protection, but it's great for touch-ups. Not only will it protect you - it can also mattify and moisturize your skin.
Step 4. Consider powdered sunscreen
This product can also be applied on top of makeup. However, contrary to what happens with sprays, you have to touch the skin, which could ruin the make-up. Applying it all over your face will prevent the sun from penetrating the skin. Plus, it can also be put on your hairline to make sure it protects you completely.
Step 5. Repeat the application often and generously
A physical type sunscreen goes away more easily than a chemical one. Since it protects the skin through physical action, the face must be completely covered for it to work. Cream and powder sunscreens should be reapplied to makeup every 2 hours, while sprayed sunscreens every hour.
