The "dip powder" technique allows you to obtain a perfect and long-lasting manicure with a few simple steps, and for this reason it has become increasingly popular. Removing base polish, dust and sealant is just as quick and easy and can be done at home. You can choose between two different methods, but either way you will need acetone. At the end of the process your nails will be healthy and shiny.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using Tinfoil
Step 1. Smooth the surface of the nails with a file
It is important to remove the sealant applied over the dust before using acetone. After smoothing each nail thoroughly and evenly, the dust will come off more easily.
Step 2. Soak 10 cotton balls in acetone
Make 10 nail-sized balls and soak them in 100% pure acetone.
The balls should not drip, but they must be completely saturated with acetone to be able to soften the powder and nail polish
Step 3. Wrap your fingers in foil to hold the balls in place
After soaking them with acetone, place each on a fingernail, then wrap the foil around your fingers to hold the cotton in place. Make sure the balls are positioned correctly before squeezing the paper around your fingers.
Wrap most of your fingers to make sure the foil stays in place
Step 4. Leave the acetone on the nails for 10-15 minutes
Watch television or listen to some music while acetone does its job. Try not to move your hands too much to prevent the paper or cotton from moving before the time runs out.
Step 5. Remove the paper and cotton from your fingers
Free the foil one finger at a time and gently press the swab against your nail to make sure the powder sticks to the cotton. Once all your fingers are free, use the file to wipe off any remaining dust and nail polish.
Method 2 of 2: Using Hot Water
Step 1. Smooth the surface of the nails with the file
It is important to remove the sealant before using acetone to allow it to penetrate the underlying dust layer. Use the file carefully to create a smooth surface on each nail.
Step 2. Soften the powder by soaking your hands in hot water
Use hot tap water or heat it in the microwave, but make sure it's not hot to avoid burning your fingers. Pour the water into a bowl and add a little liquid soap.
Step 3. Soak your nails in hot water for a few minutes
After adding the soap, dip your fingertips into the hot water to soften the powder and base polish. If you want, you can use two vessels instead of just one to soak all ten fingers. However, remember that it is easier to remove the nail polish from only one hand at a time.
Make sure each bowl can comfortably accommodate the five fingers of the hand
Step 4. Prepare the acetone bath
In order not to use too much, fold a paper towel in half or in threes and wet it with pure acetone then put it in a small bowl and use it to cover the nails. The napkin paper should be saturated, but not dripping.
Step 5. Keep your nails in contact with the wet napkin for 10-15 minutes
In this period of time the acetone will be able to definitively soften the powder and the base enamel. If you have chosen to treat one hand at a time, after 10-15 minutes, repeat with the other hand.
To avoid breathing in the acetone fumes, open the window or turn on a fan and keep your hand and bowl covered with a cloth
Step 6. Scrub your nails with acetone
After the shutter speed has elapsed, rub the acetone-soaked paper towel over your nails. Finally, use the file to remove any remaining residue.
