McMuffin Bacon & Egg is a breakfast dish sold by McDonald's, easy to eat on the fly and particularly filling. To prepare it at home you need a few ingredients, namely a scone (like an English muffin), bacon, an egg and cheese (like a slice). You can cook the ingredients and fill the sandwich in minutes. If you want, you can modify the recipe by trying to use another type of bread, cheese or salami, perhaps adding fresh vegetables.
Ingrediants
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) of softened butter
- 1 scone (English muffin) cut in half
- 1 slice of bacon (preferably Canadian)
- 1 large egg
- Salt and black pepper
- 1 slice
Makes 1 sandwich
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Make a Classic McMuffin Bacon & Egg
Step 1. Toast the muffin
Cut a scone into 2 parts and spread 1 teaspoon of butter on each half. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the 2 halves of the scone in it with the buttered side facing down. Toast them for 3 or 4 minutes to brown them and make them slightly crunchy. Move them onto aluminum foil with the greased side facing up.
If you want to make them crunchy on both sides, flip and toast them for another minute
Step 2. Brown the bacon in the pan
Turn the heat up to medium-high and pour 1 teaspoon of butter into the pan. Place a slice of bacon in it and fry it for 1 to 2 minutes. Turn it with pliers several times to make it crisp on the edges. Place it on one half of the toasted bun.
Keep an eye on it while cooking, as it can burn very easily
Step 3. Fry the egg
On the pan, place a large steel egg ring, a clean shallow jar, or a large metal cookie cutter, then spray it with cooking spray or use olive oil. Break an egg into it, then sprinkle it with salt and pepper. Cook it for about 3 minutes, so that it becomes very compact.
Step 4. Complete the sandwich filling
With the help of a spatula, place the cooked egg on the bacon. Open the wrapper of a slice and place it on the egg. Place the other half of the scone on the topping and wrap the bun with aluminum foil to trap the heat and help melt the cheese.
The sandwich can be eaten immediately or placed in an airtight container. You can store it in the freezer or refrigerator (for up to one day)
Method 2 of 2: Try Variations
Step 1. Use another type of bread
English muffins are the perfect size to make this dish, but you can also use another type of sandwich, such as a rosette or a scone. Alternatively, cut 2 slices of your favorite bread and toast them. Here are other ideas:
- Pita;
- Croissant;
- Small bagels.
Step 2. Replace the bacon with another cured meat to modify the recipe
For example, you can cook a turkey or pork frankfurter in the same pan used for the egg. Place it on one of the 2 halves of the bread.
If you prefer a vegetarian version, don't use cured meats
Step 3. Use another type of cheese
It is a simple substitution to make but it substantially affects the flavor. The thin slice can be replaced with the cheese you prefer. For example, you can use crumbled soft cheese (such as blue, goat or feta cheese). Alternatively, you could add a slice of a hard cheese, such as:
- Cheddar;
- Provolone;
- Gruyere;
- Gouda.
Step 4. Add vegetables and greens
Although the traditional recipe does not include this type of ingredient, you can use it without problems. Slice your favorite vegetables or greens. Use them to fill the sandwich immediately or brown them for a few minutes before placing them on the egg. You could choose:
- Sauteed mushrooms;
- Sliced tomato;
- Sauteed peppers;
- Sauteed onions;
- Fresh sprouts.
Step 5. Add a sauce
For a unique flavor, sprinkle some sauce on the bread before stuffing it. If you like spicy, use sriracha sauce or tabasco sauce. Mayonnaise and mustard, on the other hand, are more conventional choices. Other ideas:
- Ketchup;
- Horseradish sauce;
- Harissa;
- Relish.
