Some dishes clearly indicate that they are suitable for use in the microwave oven, but what to do when there is no indication? This tutorial will teach you to do a little test to find out if your plate or cup is suitable for use in a microwave oven.
Steps
Step 1. Fill a microwave-safe cup with cold water
Step 2. Place the dish under test inside the microwave
Step 3. Now also place the cup full of water inside the microwave oven, next to the plate
Step 4. Turn on the microwave for 15 seconds
Step 5. When the time runs out, very carefully touch both the plate and the cup
If the dish is hot, and the water is cold, it means that the dish is not suitable for use in the microwave. If, on the other hand, the dish is cold while the water is hot, you can continue.
Step 6. Repeat the previous step increasing the cooking time to 30 seconds
Step 7. Repeat the test again bringing the cooking time to one minute
Step 8. If the dish remains cold, it can be used in the microwave
Advice
- Some dishes are clearly marked with the mark that distinguishes them as suitable for cooking in the microwave oven. Look for it on the bottom of the dish or on the packaging.
- Normally pressing the 'Start' button will set a cooking time of one minute.
Warnings
- Do not place dishes with metal parts or decorations in the microwave.
- Do not perform this test using Chinese or precious porcelain.
