There is no better way to express your happiness than by pressing the palm of your hand against that of your friend at the same speed. The resulting noise serves not only to celebrate your glory but also to alarm, with a cacophonic explosion, any opponents within earshot. Start with Step 1 to learn how to high-five like a true champion.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Beat a Basic Five
Step 1. Find a buddy:
you can't high five alone, because otherwise it would be clapping. To beat a true high five, you will need someone who is inclined to celebrate with you. The ideal would be to find someone who has a very strong upper body and strong forearms. Find someone who has at least one hand.
A big five needs a very good reason. It is difficult to repeat the same spontaneous energy of true celebration in an aseptic environment to "practice". So look for lots of opportunities to outrun your opponents or do some skating tricks wherever you go
Step 2. Make sure you have the right posture
To put the right strength in your high five, you will need to have solid posture. Plant your feet on the ground, legs apart at shoulder level, keep your back straight, and pull your shoulders back as if you are inflating your chest. This solid stance will allow you to weld well to the ground, transferring the force along the entire body to the wrist, for a deafening result.
With bad posture you will not only get a very weak high five but it will make you look even worse. If you are about to hit the high five with your belly sticking out, your friends may point out that you are not putting your soul into it and therefore will have a valid justification for canceling the high five
Step 3. Smile
High-five means celebrating first, but it can also be the reason to celebrate in itself. There is no reason why you shouldn't smile while high-five. High-five is a great honor, never take it for granted with a half-smile.
The only exception to this rule can only be made after slapping the palm of your hand with that of your friend, because a grimace of justified pain is entirely acceptable
Step 4. Get ready
Start meeting your friend. After the first few steps, raise your dominant hand as if you were about to throw a baseball. The hand should remain "tilted" in this position with the palm of the hand open approximately near the ear.
You could bend your wrist slightly and / or pull it back a little to add more power
Step 5. Move forward
When you are within walking distance of your friend, let yourself go. Launch your hand at full speed by tilting your shoulder, leaning forward and twisting slightly. If you hear a loud "crack" before your hands touch, don't worry: it's your hand breaking the sound barrier. Aim for the center of your friend's palm, which should do the same thing.
If you have a hard time hitting your partner's palm, try focusing on the movement of his elbow. Try it, it really works
Step 6. Get in touch
With any luck, the palm of your hand will meet your friend's while they are up. The result should be the sound of a quick and loud "slap" that may ring out for a moment or two, depending on the room acoustics. Enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done.
You know you've given a spectacular high five if everyone around you immediately turns to look at you with an expression of annoyance. Ignore them, because they are "the envious" and express their annoyance only to mask their deep insecurities
Step 7. Celebrate with your friend by shouting out loud
Congratulations! You just successfully gave the best five possible. To increase the emotional resonance of your five, shout out words like "Yeah!", "Wow!", Or "Whoo!" with your friend. Now it's your turn!
-
Other great choices:
- "Fantastic!"
- "Good!"
- "Strong!"
- "Energetic!"
- "Right!"
- "And go!"
Part 2 of 2: Learn some variations
Step 1. Learn "The Classic"
Start by raising your hand palm outward while facing the other person. Bring your hand forward saying "High five!", "High five!", "Up here!", Or "Hit me!". High five as explained above.
Keep an eye on the goal! Focus on your friend's palm or elbow to avoid getting hit in the face
Step 2. Learn "The Low Shot"
Instead of offering your hand to your friend with the palm facing out, bring it down close to your hip and turn the palm up. Make it clear that you are ready by saying "Low blow!" Your friend should hit your hand below.
- If you are feeling particularly bad, remove your hand at the last second. You can also decide to underline the joke by saying "Too slow!"
- If you like this method and are looking to expand your repertoire, try combining it with a similar one such as, for example, "Higher!".
Step 3. Learn "High Five in the Air"
High five in the air, also known as "Wi-five", is a five hit from a distance that requires only eye contact. To perform it you will simply have to follow the rules of the Classic Five without actual contact. Raise your hand, palm facing out, towards your friend, who is doing the same thing. Try to make your palms "meet" virtually at the same time. For best results the move can be accompanied by an effect sound like "Whoopish!" or "Kapow!" to simulate contact.
This variant is perfect for the digital age, as it allows two people to give each other high five via video chat, thousands of miles away
Step 4. Learn the "Frozen"
Perform a Classic Five, but after the initial contact, hold palm contact for a few seconds before pulling them away. For best results, keep eye contact with your friend. Through the eyes you can try to communicate a sense of desire for emotions that you hide under your outer calm!
For extra fun, move your fingers together with your friend's until they cross in a loving embrace
Step 5. Learn the "Fra-Fugno" and its variants
This technique isn't really a five, but it's a similar gesture enough to fall into the category. In Fra-Pugno, each "brother", that is, each close friend, forms a closed fist with one hand, and lightly touches the fist of the other, making a knuckle-knuckle contact, and concluding with a loud grunt or a scream. This technique has many variations. Here are just a few:
- The Rocket. The first friend, after impact, moves his fist by thumbs up, while the second mimes the rocket's fire tail by placing his hand under the first friend's fist, moving his fingers slowly downward as if was a trail of fire. Both friends reproduce the sound of the rocket.
- The Gear Shift. During the impact, the second friend grabs the fist of the first and yells "Change gear!". The second friend mimics the shifting motion of a manual transmission car using the first friend's fist as a gearbox, making the sound of the car accelerating.
- The Big Bang. During the impact, push your fists away slowly as if there is an explosion in the middle. Simulates the sound of an atomic bomb explosion at a great distance.
