This article explains how to view the direct messages of an Instagram conversation using a PC or a Mac. To date, it is possible to view the direct messages of Instagram simply by visiting the official website of the social network, but the procedure described in the article also allows you to view stories.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using Google Chrome
Step 1. Start Google Chrome and visit the website www.instagram.com
Step 2. Press the key combination "Ctrl + Shift + I"
The "Developer Tools" tab will appear.
Step 3. Click on the "Toggle device toolbar" icon
It is the second displayed in the upper right corner of the window and features a stylized smartphone and tablet.
Step 4. At this point, the content displayed on the page will take on the size of a mobile device screen
You are now able to view stories and direct messages exactly as if you were using your mobile device.
If you don't see the icon to view direct messages, try refreshing the page view
Method 2 of 2: Using the Bluestacks Emulator
Step 1. Launch the Bluestacks program on your computer
It features an icon that depicts a series of multicolored squares stacked on top of each other.
- Bluestacks is available for both Windows and Mac.
- If you have not yet installed this emulator on your computer you can download it directly from the official website.
- When you first start the Bluestacks emulator, you will be asked to set it up and log in with your Google account
Step 2. Click on the Play Store icon of the Bluestacks emulator

and is displayed on the home screen of the program.
If you are in a different part of the interface, click on the "Back" button or the "Home" button. Both are located in the lower left part of the window
Step 3. Install the Instagram app within Bluestacks
Search for the Instagram app in the Play Store, select it from the list of results that will appear, then click on the green button Install to install it on the Android system emulated by the Bluestacks program.
Click on the button I accept to continue with the app installation if prompted.
Step 4. Launch the Instagram app within Bluestacks
Click on the green button You open displayed on the Play Store page dedicated to the Instagram app. The indicated button will appear automatically at the end of the application installation. Alternatively, you can click on the Instagram icon that appeared on the Home of the Android device emulated by Bluestacks.
Step 5. Log into your Instagram account
Enter your email address or username and security password.
Step 6. Click the message notification icon in the upper right part of the window
A list of the messages you have recently received will be displayed.
Step 7. Click on the conversation you want to view
The tab that appears lists all the chats you have recently participated in. By selecting the one you are interested in, the related messages will be displayed.
Step 8. View the messages you have received
At this point you can consult all the messages that have been sent to you on the chat you have selected.
