This article explains how to add tags to videos you upload to YouTube. Since tags affect how your videos are searched in search engines, they can be important in ensuring broader exposure to your content. Tags can be added when uploading a new video to a computer or later, using the Youtube application.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using YouTube on a Computer

Step 1. Open a browser and go to
If you are not already logged in, log in by entering your username and password.

Step 2. Click on your profile icon
Once you are logged in, you will find it in the top right corner of the page.

Step 3. Select Your Channel
This option is at the top of the drop-down menu.

Step 4. Click Customize Channel
This button is located in the upper right corner of the page titled Your Channel and allows you to open the settings.

Step 5. Click on the blue Upload Video link under the Home tab
This will take you to a page where you can choose a file to upload to YouTube.

Step 6. Click Select File
A pop-up will appear that will allow you to search for the file on your computer.

Step 7. Navigate to the folder where the file was saved

Step 8. Click on the video and select Open at the bottom right of the menu

Step 9. Click Next

Step 10. Click on the Tag field and enter keywords
- Entering the tags will determine how your video will rank on search engines, so you should choose keywords that allow you to have a broad exposure.
- For example, if you want your video to appear in cooking tutorial searches, you could write cooking and tutorials in the tag field.

Step 11. Enter the title and description of the video

Step 12. Click Finish to publish the video
Method 2 of 2: Using YouTube on a Phone

Step 1. Open the YouTube application
The icon looks like a white play button on a red and white background.
Log in if access to your account does not happen automatically

Step 2. Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner

Step 3. Click on Your Channel

Step 4. Go to the Video tab

Step 5. Press the ⁝ icon next to the video you want to add tags to
A context menu should appear at the bottom of the screen.

Step 6. Select Edit

Step 7. Write the tags in the text field below the Add tag option

Step 8. Click Save in the upper right corner of the screen
The video should then contain the tags you entered.
Advice
- You should choose the most relevant tags for your video. Try to relate them to the topic and content of the video.
- In general, choose broader tags to make sure the video is more likely to appear in the first search results for associated categories, such as cats, dogs, cooking, etc.
