Do you need to find an old email? Thanks to Inbox by Gmail and the "Completed" system, old emails are never lost. You can search for old messages by doing a search very similar to what you would do in Gmail. If the email has a label, you can find it by looking at all emails with the same label. If you are not sure how to locate a message, there are other very effective research tools to do so.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using the Search Tool
Step 1. Search for a message
Tap the search button at the top right or, if you're using Chrome, click on the search bar. You can search for an email based on various types of criteria.
Step 2. Search for it by entering the sender's email address
This way you will see all the messages he sent you. If you can't remember it entirely, you can even type in part of the address.
Step 3. Search for an email by entering the sender's name to find the messages that a particular person has sent you
Step 4. Search for an email by typing keywords in the subject and body of the email to find all relevant results
Step 5. Search for an email using the date
You can use operators like older_than and newer_than to search for a message based on criteria like day, month, and year. For example, typing older_than: 6m will search for e-mails sent more than six months ago, while typing newer_than: 3d you can see all the messages received in the previous three days.
Step 6. Search for an email based on the size of the message
You can use the larger and smaller operators to search for messages larger or smaller than a certain size. For example, larger: 2m allows you to search for messages larger than 2 megabytes.
Step 7. Combine various search criteria to narrow the results
You can combine operators such as e-mail address and date or keyword and sender name.
- You can use the OR operator to search for two (or more) terms at a time.
- You can use the - operator to exclude terms from the search results. For example, typing appointment -film allows you to search for all results that match the word "appointment" but do not contain the term "movie".
- You can use "" to search for exact phrases.
- You can use + to search for an exact term. For example, if you type + home, the results will only show emails that contain the word "home", but not "homes".
Method 2 of 2: Checking the Labels
Step 1. Check the "Completed" folder by opening it from the Inbox by Gmail menu (☰)
It lets you see all the messages you marked as "Completed", sorted by the date you tagged them as such.
Step 2. Examine the labels
Open the Inbox by Gmail menu and scroll through all the labels. By opening one you will see all the messages sorted by the date of receipt.
Step 3. Check the recycle bin
If you have accidentally deleted a message, you may find it in this folder. You can open it from the Inbox by Gmail menu.
Remember, deleted messages remain in the trash for 30 days before being permanently deleted
Step 4. Check for "Deferred" messages
You may have postponed a message to appear later in your inbox. You can see all deferred emails in this folder, which can be accessed from the Inbox by Gmail menu.
