If the screen on your laptop is cracked and you want to try to take it off yourself to replace it, you can. You just need a few tools and a little patience and, in no time at all, you'll have that broken screen out of your laptop.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Remove the Front Bezel
Step 1. Find the screw covers and remove them with your hobby knife or utility knife
Laptop screens on the screws have rubber covers along the screen bezel. Sometimes, however, rubber covers don't have screws underneath, so it would be wise to only partially remove them to see if they are hiding any screws.
The bezel is the protective material around your laptop screen, typically made of plastic. The screen assembly is the top half of your laptop that contains the screen
Step 2. Unscrew the faceplate
Once you find the front bezel screws, unscrew them all with a Phillips screwdriver.
Make sure you put the rubber covers of the screws, as well as the screws themselves, in a place where you can't lose them
Step 3. Remove the front bezel to gain access to the laptop screen itself
Open gently by levering on one side with your index finger and applying pressure on the screen with your thumbs.
Repeat the process described along the entire length of the screen cover parts until you are able to completely remove the bezel, revealing the laptop screen
Part 2 of 2: Remove the Laptop Screen
Step 1. Locate the bracket screws and remove them
The laptop screen is typically held together by metal brackets on both sides. Remove these brackets by unscrewing them.
Again, put the screws where you can't lose them
Step 2. Place a soft cloth or paper towels on the keyboard
You will need it later to protect the screen you will remove.
Step 3. Gently pull the screen out of the laptop starting from the top and place it face down on the keyboard
Do not pull the screen or remove it completely, as doing so could damage the video connectors.
The video connectors must be disconnected from the screen before it can be completely removed
Step 4. Remove the video connector
After placing the screen on the keyboard facing down, you will see a cable on the back of the screen; this is the video connector. Peel off the tape that connects the cable to the screen and then the video connector by gently pulling it out.
Some notebook models may have a latch mechanism on the video connector, so you must be sure to open it before unplugging the video connector
Step 5. Disconnect the inverter which illuminates the screen against the backlight
It is typically located at the bottom of the screen. Disconnect both the display cable and the video connector from the inverter by gently pulling them out.
