This article explains how to remove the back of a Samsung Galaxy phone case. This procedure is part of an advanced repair technique and can damage or even permanently damage your mobile phone. Removing the back of your Samsung Galaxy voids the warranty. If your model is still under warranty and requires repairs, you should call Samsung customer service or take it to the official dealer you purchased it from so that it can be repaired by professional technicians.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7
Step 1. Remove your phone cover if necessary
If you have installed an external cover on your Samsung Galaxy, you need to remove it before continuing.
Step 2. Turn off your phone
To do this, hold down the lock key, press Switch off in the menu that appears, then again SWITCH OFF to confirm your choice.
If you remove the back panel with the phone switched on, you run the risk of creating a short circuit or getting an electric shock
Step 3. Remove the SIM and SD cards
This is not a mandatory step, but it is recommended to prevent the heat you apply to your phone from damaging the cards there.
Use the SIM card removal tool and push it into the corresponding hole on the left side of the top of the phone. This will eject the drawer that houses the SIM and microSD card of the phone
Step 4. Place the phone with the screen facing down on a soft surface
This way you will avoid scratching the screen as you remove the back panel.
For example, you can spread a towel or placemat on a table
Step 5. Apply heat to the back of the phone
Do this for about 2 minutes. The best method is to use a hair dryer or hot air gun, but you should avoid heating the same spot for more than a second at a time. This will loosen the grip of the glue that secures the rear panel of the Samsung Galaxy to the internal structure of the mobile phone.
- To avoid damaging the phone, keep the hairdryer pointed at the back of the device, then quickly move it up and down in a zigzag trajectory.
- Alternatively, you can use a microwavable heat pad designed specifically for this.
Step 6. Insert a thin flat object at the joining point of the panels
You should notice a gap where the front and rear panels of the Galaxy case meet; here you will need to insert the spudger, a flat head screwdriver, a credit card or similar object.
Your goal is to pry up the rear panel so that it separates it from the front panel, but without completely undermining it
Step 7. Slide a thin, flat object along one side of the phone
You can use for example a pick or a credit card. During this process, the back of the phone should separate slightly from the rest of the case.
Make sure you are not using a metal object, which can scratch or otherwise damage the phone
Step 8. Pry up with a flat tool on the opposite side of the phone
This will detach the bottom of the back of the phone, as well as the sides, from the front panel.
Apply more heat if needed
Step 9. Pull the back panel of the phone up, then separate it completely from the rest of the case
The last part of the adhesive should give way when you complete this movement, because only the top adhesive layer holds the back panel of the phone in place.
- You can re-apply a heat source or slide a flat tool along the top of the phone to make it easier.
- Set the back of the phone aside in a warm and dry place so that you don't damage the internal components of the phone when you put it back.
Method 2 of 2: Samsung Galaxy S Up to S5
Step 1. If necessary, remove the phone cover
If you have installed an external cover on your Samsung Galaxy you must remove it before continuing.
Step 2. Turn off your phone
To do this, hold down the lock button, press Switch off in the menu that appears, then again SWITCH OFF (or in some cases OK) to confirm your choice.
If you remove the back panel with the phone switched on, you run the risk of creating a short circuit or getting an electric shock
Step 3. Place the phone with the screen facing down on a soft surface
This way you will avoid scratching the display as you remove the back panel.
For example, you can spread a towel on a table
Step 4. Find the notch to remove the back panel
Depending on the model of your phone, the location of that point varies slightly:
- S4 and S5: upper left corner of the rear panel.
- S2 and S3: upper side of the rear panel.
- S.: bottom of the rear panel.
Step 5. Insert a fingernail into the notch
You can also use a small flat-blade screwdriver, pick, or similar thin object, as long as you use it gently.
Step 6. Gently push the back panel towards you
It should move away from the rest of the phone.
Step 7. Pull the back panel away from the rest of the phone
Once you have a good grip on the panel, pull it away from the phone case, revealing the battery and SIM card.
