Actors of all ages, looks, shapes and sizes are needed to help brands and companies sell and promote their products. TV commercials are still widely used to influence consumers, so there is a constant search for actors to play roles in TV commercials. You don't have to be a professional actor or model to audition for TV commercials, but a little experience with the camera will be useful. Introduce yourself to the prepared audition, with the lines by heart and trying to make a good impression on the director.
Steps
Step 1. Write down all the details of the specimen
Your agent or casting director should provide you with all the information related to the role you are applying for.
Get dressed for the part. They might tell you to wear something in particular. Otherwise, wear what feels best to you. For example, for a commercial about a mother preparing lunch for her children, she wears something casual
Step 2. Study the product or service you will be promoting
It will help you understand the purpose of the commercial.
Step 3. Be on time
You will have time to settle down and familiarize yourself with the studio or audition location.
Ask for reliable directions to get you to the right place. Use the navigator on your phone or in the car. If you use public transport, make sure you are clear on the route
Step 4. Remember the photos and the CV
Make sure everything is up to date. The CV should list any relevant acting experiences you have and include contact details. The photo should represent you and be professional
Step 5. Be respectful to everyone
It may be difficult to distinguish the casting director from the cleaning man.
Be nice to your fellow actors too. You want to impress everyone you meet at the audition
Step 6. Pay attention to the process
You will probably be sitting in a waiting room full of actors until you hear your name.
Follow all directions. You will be immediately discarded if you try to receive preferential treatment or concessions
Step 7. Introduce yourself professionally
When you are called, present yourself clearly.
Follow the instructions on where to put yourself, and listen to how you should move. There may be a photographer, and you may be asked to walk or sit according to the script of the commercial
Step 8. Say your name
If they ask you for your "personal details" or "data", they mean your name and surname.
Step 9. Say your lines
As soon as you hear "Action" or "Go" or something similar, say the lines you received before the audition.
- Read directly from the script if necessary. Sometimes the jokes will be given just before the audition, and you won't have time to learn them.
- Read from the hunchback, if any. Many auditions use a hunchback instead of scripts. These are billboards on which the jokes are written.
Step 10. Get ready to improvise
They may ask you to recite the lines based on the product or service promoted by the TV commercial.
Step 11. Thank everyone when you're done
Making a good impression means being nice to everyone, from the manager to the secretary who greeted you.
Step 12. Be prepared not to be caught
TV commercials often look for very particular types of people. If this audition isn't the part for you, keep trying.
Advice
- Remember that you are selling something. TV commercials are based more on personality than acting.
- Acting isn't always that easy, but you have to do your best. Get into character. If it is from another era, try to live like that for at least a week.
- Find an agent. If you want to make a career in TV commercials, an agent can help you find auditions and keep you in touch with directors and producers looking for actors. Keep in mind that having an agent means that you will have to give him about 10% of what you will earn.
