Many would like to have the opportunity to dance, but not everyone has the time or money to take a class. This article will help anyone who wishes to start dancing and become a contemporary dancer, regardless of their abilities or innate talent. Read on to learn more.
Steps
Step 1. At home, look for a space where you can train frequently
Maybe you have a large bedroom, space in the basement or even in the garden - everyone has the opportunity to practice in a different place. Don't pick a spot in the house that tends to be frequented by the rest of your family, like the living room - if you're just dancing in front of the television, you're likely to be annoying.
Step 2. Learn targeted stretching steps and exercises to become a contemporary dancer
On YouTube you will find many tutorials. Start watching videos on how to do pirouettes and any other steps that interest you. Obviously, for those who do not take a course it is difficult to understand if the movements are performed correctly, but the first thing to do is to master the pirouettes and the more complex steps.
Step 3. Once you have learned some steps, try to create a choreography by choosing a song you have on your mobile or computer
Try it and try it again at home: you will see that you will get better and better. Try to put on good facial expressions to get in tune with the dance vibe.
Step 4. Look for courses on YouTube that teach you the correct foot and arm positions for performing pirouettes and other steps
Make sure you use the tips you are given and always move in the right position. That way, looking at you will be a pleasure.
Step 5. If you are going to take dance seriously, you need to stretch about three times a day to gain and maintain good elasticity
Below you will find some useful exercises.
Step 6. Spread your legs shoulder-width apart
Slowly bend down, stretching as far as possible. To complete this exercise, you should rest your palms on the floor, with your head between your legs. Hold for five seconds, then gradually build up to 30. Repeat the exercise with your legs together. Instead of resting your palms on the floor, your hands should be comfortably flat on your feet.
Step 7. Try another stretching exercise
It looks a lot like the two exercises above, only many find it more difficult. You need to sit down and extend your legs in front of you. Reach forward and try to grab your toes. When you perform this movement, you can see how far you can go.
Step 8. If you want to look even better, then you can incorporate elements of artistic gymnastics into the choreography
Elasticity is essential for a gymnast, so you have to stretch every day.
Step 9. Learn to do the handstand
This movement always allows you to make a great impression. To perform it you have to get upside down, bend over creating a sort of bridge and return to an upright position. Obviously this is much easier said than done, but when done correctly it looks great. Practice in the presence of a friend and do the handstand in front of the sofa. Once you are good at it, bend your feet until they rest on the sofa. Then, turn them over until they rest on the floor. Once you have mastered the technique, try it without the help of the sofa. The last part of the movement, the most difficult, is to return to an upright position. However, try and try again: you will see that you will succeed! Do this exercise only in the company of a person who already knows how to do it and who has clear ideas!
Step 10. Learn to do the splits
This movement also makes a choreography more beautiful, so do it every time you stretch and you will progressively improve. Don't demand too much of your body, otherwise you risk a muscle strain or tear.
Step 11. Practice at school or work
If you really want to get good at it, try practicing during recess with a good friend who has the same interest as you. You could go to the gym or an empty room. Be sure to inquire before using a school or workplace space.
Step 12. If you go to school or university, inquire to find out if free courses are offered in your city or if there are student discounts
This way you will be able to train more and have the opportunity to perform.
Step 13. If you really feel like dancing, then try to put some effort into it
You could drop out activities that match your dance class or drop out of a class you don't particularly like and use this money to pay for dance classes.
Advice
- Before trying any dance or gymnastic moves, always do some stretching.
- When exercising at home, don't pester or pester the rest of the family to help you train every day, otherwise they'll be less and less willing to help you out in the future.
