It can be physical pain. Or an emotional pain. Whatever it is, each of us recognizes when we need to get distracted from something.
Steps
Step 1. Decide if it is reasonable to eliminate the distraction
Sometimes some distractions like homework, utility bills, or an urgent phone call from your boss can't be ignored. Make sure that this distraction, pain, or whatever is really something you don't want to think about, or that you don't want to do, and that ignoring it or at least trying it is a healthy choice. Since this is an upset stomach, make sure you have taken all the necessary medications before distracting yourself while waiting for it to improve.
Step 2. Find a comfortable seat
You may be there for a few hours, so find a place where you can relax. It will have to be a reasonable choice, if you are trying to distract yourself from a certain worry, do not opt for a room where the subject of your anxiety is particularly present.
Step 3. Get everything you need
If you have a cold, you may need a glass of water. If you intend to listen to music or read, your iPod or a book may be needed.
Step 4. Remove everything related to distraction or pain
This means that if you are trying to get over a breakup and are reading this article with a desire to relieve nostalgia for a few hours, you will need to remove your ex's photos, letters, emails and messages. Similarly, if you want to distract yourself from a severe stomach ache, you will need to eliminate all traces of junk or unhealthy food from the room.
Step 5. If you would like to spend time alone, communicate it to those present in a polite manner by asking not to be disturbed
If it helps, close the door and windows and turn off your cell phone, computer, etc.
Step 6. Make sure the time is right
If you have a date in 10 minutes, maybe relaxing now is not a good idea.
Step 7. Prepare to relax and get distracted
Step 8. Listen to some music
Step 9. Read a book
Step 10. Meditate or engage in any spiritual practice you believe in
Step 11. Sleep
Step 12. Take up a hobby
Step 13. Play a video game
Step 14. Write a story or more simply in your diary
Step 15. Draw any picture, just don't think
Step 16. Use your imagination
Create a character, a kingdom, a new imaginary friend, anything. Don't be a perfectionist, don't think, just do what you are doing.
Step 17. Take care of the simpler household chores, you will relieve stress and be able to distract yourself effectively
Step 18. Help others (perhaps by editing a wikiHow article or answering a question on Yahoo
).
Step 19. If it's not physical pain, go for a run or play a sport
Exercise can be great for emotions.
Step 20. Solve a puzzle like Sudoku
Step 21. Call a friend you trust and let off steam to release tension
Step 22. Tear off some sheets of paper
Punch a pillow. We all need to let off steam from time to time. Make sure you do it in a healthy way.
Step 23. Read the news or blog you are interested in
Step 24. Running errands, boring as they may be, are a way to relieve stress or distract you
Do this if you are not in physical pain.
Step 25. Read, listen or watch something funny
Laughter is the best medicine (if you have a severe headache or stomach ache though, laughter may not be a good idea).
Step 26. Watch a movie or TV show
Step 27. If none of these methods work, find something else that is effective and that you like
Remember that hobbies and distractions can arise anywhere. Even a simple game or app can be a major distraction.
