DVDs can be duplicated by copying or burning them. It may be a good idea to copy your original DVD movie collection in case of damage or theft. To save your collection you first need to know how to rip a DVD movie.
Steps

Step 1. Copy the DVD to your hard drive
Before burning a DVD to an external disk, you must first copy it to the hard disk using specific software. There are a number of free or purchase programs available. Get the ones that suit your needs and budget. DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are the most common free burning applications.
Method 1 of 3: Copy with DVD Decrypter

Step 1. Download and install DVD Decrypter from any site that offers DVD burning software

Step 2. Upload the DVD to your computer

Step 3. Locate and copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive

Step 4. Search, find and select the VIDEO_TS folder on the first DVD Decrypter screen

Step 5. Click "Ok"

Step 6. Click on the "DVD Decrypter" button
This process copies your DVDs and saves them unencrypted on your hard drive. It will take you several minutes.
Method 2 of 3: Copy with DVD Shrink

Step 1. Download and install DVD Shrink directly from the software site
Before downloading, check your computer's compatibility with the software.

Step 2. Upload the DVD to your computer

Step 3. Open DVD Shrink

Step 4. Search, find and select the movie via the "Open DVD Disc" window on the first DVD Shrink screen

Step 5. Select the "Backup" menu on the new screen

Step 6. Click "Ok"
The software will take a few minutes to analyze the DVD.

Step 7. Select “ISO Image File” from the “Select Backup Destination” drop-down box

Step 8. Click on "Ok"
The program will start copying the DVD to your hard drive. This transfer can take anywhere from one to two hours.

Step 9. Click "Ok" which appears in the "Full Backup" window
Method 3 of 3: Copy to DVD

Step 1. Now copy DVD movie from hard drive to another DVD
As in the previous case, there are various programs available for copying to external disk. There are also complete programs that allow you to copy the DVD to your hard drive and then from there to DVD with a single application. A very popular free program for burning DVD to external disk is ImgBurn.

Step 2. Download and install ImgBurn directly from the software site
Before downloading it, check that it is compatible with the features of your computer.

Step 3. Open ImgBurn from your "Start" menu

Step 4. Select "Browse" from the "File" menu on the first ImgBurn screen

Step 5. Insert a blank writable disc into your computer's drive
A DVD - R, DVD + RW or DVD - RW are all writable discs.

Step 6. Select the blank DVD as the "Destination" in your current ImgBurn screen

Step 7. Click on "Write", an icon similar to a sheet of paper with a pencil
It will appear in the lower right corner of the ImgBurn screen. Now the program will burn your movie to DVD.
