Having a pancake at your party is a fantastic way to create decorations and have a game to entertain your guests in one go. However, you don't need to go out and buy it for your next party. By following the steps described in the article, you will be able to build your own personalized pan, discovering that making pan pans is as fun as breaking them!
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Prepare the pancake
Step 1. Choose the shape for your pancake
Create the pan you like best! The easiest shape to make is an oblong sphere based on the shape of a balloon, but you can choose any shape you like.
- To create a more elaborate shape, attach colored cardstock with masking tape or glue to the ball shape.
- Traditional saucepans are made from ceramic, but they can be difficult to make and dangerous. It is best to glue materials that you can fold, such as paper and card.
Step 2. Protect your work area
Making a pancake can be messy, so make sure you have room available to do the job. Line your work area with newspaper or cellophane sheets. In this way, you will lightly dirty the table you are working on and you will do the final cleaning in the blink of an eye. Avoid getting dirty, too, by wearing an old suit or apron and putting on disposable latex gloves.
Step 3. Prepare the papier mache
In a bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, 2 cups of water, and a tablespoon of salt. Stir the mixture well, until it begins to thicken like a batter. Don't worry about breaking the lumps; even if you would like the dough to be completely smooth and homogeneous, some lumps will always remain.
Step 4. Prepare the paper mache strips
Make strips of newsprint about 4 cm wide and 12-16 cm long. These strips will sit nicely on the spherical shape of your pan. You will have to prepare many strips, in order to cover the spherical shape with more layers.
Method 2 of 4: Form the Base of the Pentolaccia
Step 1. Inflate the balloon
It will be the body of the pan, so make sure you make it nice and big. Round balloons are preferable because they will create more space for candy. You can also use a box as a shape if you want to give your pan a square shape. Add what you like best to create legs, arms, tails, muzzles, hats, etc., using cardstock, newspaper, wrapping paper, Attach all these pieces using clear tape.
Step 2. Apply the papier mache to the paper strips
Dip the strips into the dough and drip off any excess using your fingers or running them over the edge of the container.
Step 3. Place the treated strips on the balloon
Place the treated strips on the balloon, arranging them crosswise, until they cover the entire surface of the balloon. Do not cover the knot of the balloon, in order to remove it later easily. Repeat this step 3 to 4 times, waiting for one layer to dry completely before adding the next.
Step 4. Let the pans dry
After you have finished adding the strips of papier-mâché, let the pan dry thoroughly until it has completely hardened.
Method 3 of 4: Decorate the Pentolaccia
Step 1. Paint the pentolaccia
Use a single color to soften the paper and to create a level surface. It doesn't need to be artfully painted, you just need to coat the surface well. Choose a color that matches the decorations you will add or the animal or character you have chosen to shape the pan.
Step 2. Glue some crepe paper onto the pan
This will give the pan a traditional look. Cut out strips of crepe paper and glue them onto the pan. Leave it as strips or make it into bows and glue them on top.
Step 3. Put the finishing touches
Once you've made the base with crepe paper, add some more small details to the pan. Colorful ribbons and brightly colored fabric squares can be added as fringes. If you made an animal shape, make it wide-eyed to give it a fun look.
Method 4 of 4: Fill the Pentolaccia
Step 1. Make a hole to insert the cake
If the balloon has not deflated, deflate it yourself and take it out. Since you didn't cover the knot with papier mache before, you should have a small hole available.
Step 2. Enlarge the hole if necessary
If the cake doesn't fit, cut out the edge of the hole to allow the cake to pass through.
Step 3. Make two small holes next to the main one
Tie a string or ribbon to the holes to create a buttonhole. It will be useful for when you need to hang the pan.
Step 4. Put the cake in the pan
Add cake, yarn stars, or whatever you like. Remember that everything you put on will have to fall to the ground, so avoid putting anything that is fragile or too small.
Step 5. Cover the hole
Mask the hole by gluing some crepe paper or tape over it. The aim is to prevent the contents of the pan from falling out before the time is right.
Step 6. Hang the pancake
Tie another string or ribbon to the buttonhole you created earlier and use it to hang the pan where you like best.
Advice
- Instead of purposely cutting out the paper, you can leave a hole in the top of the balloon (eg, avoiding covering it with papier-mâché), through which you can fill the pan.
- Use a punching bag for a bigger pansy.
- Don't limit your decorations to just crepe paper! Feathers, sequins, and faux flowers are excellent decorations for a pancake.
- Fill the pan with individually wrapped pieces of cake. A single dessert can be cheaper, but remember that the contents of the pan will scatter on the floor and the children will eat everything without thinking about where it fell. Buy individually wrapped treats or wrap them yourself using cellophane.
- With duct tape, you can attach a string to the top of the pan to hang it, but it's not the best way; If you want the pan to hang as long as possible, make two small holes through which to pass a string. To reinforce it further, thread the string through a plastic lid of a coffee pack or use the cardboard tube from an aluminum roll.
- Try making a themed pancake with your party. You could decorate a fish with bright flakes or you can make a flower with petals made from crepe paper.
