There are very few occasions in life to wear a truly glamorous and breathtaking dress. Why not make prom night one of those special occasions where you can put on a beautiful, perfect and enchanting dress? Read on to find out how …
Steps
Step 1. Start looking for your prom dress early
Even if there is no date yet, you can start browsing fashion magazines and shops even three or four months before the prom.
Choose and buy the dress at least 4-6 weeks before the prom. Most formal evening dresses (including prom dresses) require some tweaking to fit perfectly, so you'll need enough time to make these tweaks
Step 2. Make sure you don't choose a dress that some other girl will wear too, you should be different
Be yourself.
Step 3. Plan your budget for the dress and start saving as soon as possible
Make sure you have a little extra money for small accessories, such as hair pins, tights and make-up.
Step 4. Look at the red carpets of the stars, use the internet and take note of your favorite styles
You may find a similar dress in the shop near your home.
Step 5. Try out many different styles and cuts to find the right one for your body
If you are thin, your ideal dress is probably a sheath dress that showcases your silhouette. If you are soft, consider a trapeze dress that flatters the waistline and minimizes the hips and thighs. If you are short and small, buying a dress could be a nightmare; cocktail dresses turn into long evening dresses, while short party dresses turn into cocktail dresses. If you are looking for a long dress, look for a short dress that fits you long. It will look best on you and will fit anywhere without being too long.
Step 6. Once you've narrowed it down to a particular style of prom dresses, try that style in many different colors and trims
Look for a glamorous shade that adds color to the face. When choosing your trim fabric, keep in mind that bright fabrics tend to highlight figure flaws, while dull fabrics hide and diminish unwanted flaws.
Step 7. Start shopping for shoes and accessories at least two months before the prom
This way you can try on shoes, bag and dress all together in the shop. If you change your mind, at least you can return your bag and shoes, if time permits, instead of getting stuck in an expensive dress that no one else would like.
Step 8. Do not buy the dress too early, since before the big event you could easily lose or gain weight, due to stress or for any other reason
For example for the period, problems with the boyfriend, stress, the season (winter versus spring).
Step 9. A couple of weeks before the prom, try on the dress with shoes, jewelry, makeup and hairstyle to make sure you like the final look
Walk and move around with the dress a bit to check its comfort.
Step 10. On prom night, put on your dress and cover-up (any clean shirt or jacket) before you do your makeup and hair
This will avoid any makeup or product stains on your gorgeous dress.
Advice
- If you put the dress on before you do your hair and make up, wrap a towel around yourself or put a shirt over your dress to avoid stains and accidents with food, drink, makeup, hairspray, siblings, etc.
- Bring a friend or two with you when you try on clothes. It's always better to have two or three different opinions on such an important purchase.
- On the other hand, maybe you want the dress to be a surprise. Or your girlfriends may have a completely different style. Then take your mother or sister with you (if she is your age or a little older).
- If the prom dresses issue in fashion or teen magazines isn't out yet when you want to start your search, check out online stores and prom sites for some ideas. They often have a lot more information than a regular print magazine, and fewer advertisements to extricate yourself from.
