A well-wrapped gift demonstrates your talent and care taken in doing so. Here are the instructions to fold the card and surprise the person who will receive it.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Traditional Method
Step 1. Remove the price:
there's nothing more annoying than wrapping a gift and then realizing you've forgotten the tag. If you can't peel it off, erase it with a black pen or tape.
Step 2. Put the gift in a box for easier packaging
If the box tends to open, close it tightly with tape before wrapping it with gift wrapping paper (put a little).
If necessary, you can always cut off the excess gift paper, but it is impossible to add a piece later
Step 3. Use a ruler to mark the lines you will cut or fold the paper around the gift
Step 4. Place the gift upside down in the center of the card
This way, the person who will receive it will see the top of the box when they open it.
Step 5. Wrap the gift with paper
One of the two sides will need to have an extra couple of inches to fix the paper with the adhesive tape.
Step 6. Deal with the extremities
Fold the corners to create a kind of triangle. Secure with tape. Repeat on the other side.
If desired, add a crease to the triangle flap by folding the straight side back on itself
Step 7. Add a bow large enough to wrap the gift
For a classic look, you'll need a ribbon that measures twice the size of the gift in length, width and depth, so you can also tie it up.
To tie it, place the ribbon in the center of the gift, wrap the bottom, cross the two ends and tighten. Turn the pack 90 degrees and join the other two ends in the center. Tie the bow and curl it with a pair of scissors. Cut the excesses
Step 8. Add a ticket
If you are a calligraphy enthusiast, show off your skills by giving it a personal touch.
- If you hate your handwriting and you don't have ready-made cards or stickers, you can cut a piece of wrapping paper and glue it to a card, which you will place next to the bow.
- You can also cut out snowflake or balloon-shaped elements from wrapping paper and turn them into a card to arrange next to the bow.
Method 2 of 2: Japanese Style Diagonal Wrapping
Step 1. Cut a rectangle from the wrapping paper:
it should be wider than it is long.
Step 2. Arrange it diagonally in front of you, with the decoration facing the counter surface:
it should take on a shape similar to that of a diamond.
Step 3. Place the gift box on the card in the upside down position
Position the box so that a small triangle on the bottom right is not covered by the wrapping paper
Step 4. Wrap the box with paper
Some paper should be left underneath the bottom of the box.
When done right, this step creates a triangle (without a tip) on the upper left side of the box
Step 5. Fold the paper to the left side of the box
When done right, this step creates a triangle on the bottom of the box.
Step 6. Fold the other part of the paper and make sure it completely covers the crease made earlier
Secure it with tape.
Step 7. Returning to the top, fold the paper so that its excess forms another triangle
Step 8. Take the remainder of the paper on the folded triangle, lift it up and turn the box so that the part secured by the adhesive tape rests on the surface
The box will now be upside down from the starting position.
We repeat, make sure that the part wrapped on the fold completely covers it
Step 9. Leaving the box upside down, fold the excess paper to the bottom right
This will create another triangle-shaped fold.
Step 10. Fold the other part covering the box and secure it with masking tape
Step 11. Fold the excess paper on top
This will create another triangle-shaped fold.
Step 12. Secure the triangle with tape
Step 13. Fold the excess paper to both the right and left of the final crease to make a triangle
Step 14. Fold the top half of the triangle
Step 15. Secure with tape
Step 16. Finished
Advice
- Don't have a gift card? For an informal and cute result, use sheets of old comics or music charts.
- After receiving a gift, use the paper, ribbon and box in an eco-friendly way. Make sure to recycle the cardstock after removing the masking tape. Most glossy papers and bows are not recyclable. The paper you can easily reuse is plain but printed paper, while coated paper is not.
- Raffia (available in most DIY stores) is a biodegradable substitute for ribbons; although it is a little more complicated to work with, it looks good.
- Secure the ready-made bows with adhesive tape or staples: their adhesive never adheres well!
- Tie, glue or pin the bow. You can leave strips of ribbon to curl with a pair of scissors. Be careful not to cut yourself!
- For a flawless result, do this:
- Use double-sided tape instead of regular tape.
- Arrange the attachment of the paper you initially use for the package so that it is at the end or side of the gift. This trick works best with boxes. To begin, pin the paper about 6mm from one end of the package. The paper should wrap it all around. Fold the excess paper under the sheet to leave the end clean. Use double-sided tape to secure not only the fold inside, but the rest of the package as well. The attachment of the sheet will become almost invisible.
- If you use a box, you can apply light pressure on all ends of the package for a clean and professional result.
- Mailing tape is best for packages that are going to be sent or that will be wrapped in paper a long time before they are opened.
- If the gift is round, place it in the center of the card and pull it up, folding the ends and securing each with tape. Add a bow and curl it.
