Have you ever organized a movie marathon, only to get bored halfway through the second movie? With this guide, it won't happen again.
Steps
Step 1. Get an idea of how many people will attend
It can be as crowded an event as a more intimate one, for a few people. If you want to have lots of guests, plan ahead!
Step 2. Think of a theme
Among the most popular themes are surely romantic, horror, and comedy films. If you don't want to choose a genre, you can organize a marathon of your favorite movies even if they are of different genres.
Step 3. Choose how many movies to watch
The number depends on you and your guests, but you need at least two films to run a marathon. A good marathon can go up to four or five films, or even more. A real marathon should take 26.2 hours, just like an athletics marathon corresponds to 26.2 miles (about 21 km).
Step 4. Decide when to start
It depends on the length of the marathon and how late you want to go. A movie on average lasts less than two hours, but check the length of each movie to be sure. For example, if you want to watch five movies, don't start the marathon at nine in the evening, as long as you don't want to spend the whole night in white.
Step 5. Take care of the food
A marathon can't be called a marathon if you don't have plenty of snacks and drinks. Popcorn is not an option. Buy a pack or two before the marathon. The most common drinks in these cases are fruit juices and carbonated soft drinks such as cola, orange soda or chinotto. Stock them up before you start. Alcohol can also be an option if you are all 18 and the movies are light and suitable for a relaxed and a little "drunk" environment.
Step 6. You can also decide to offer a real meal
If the marathon lasts longer than 6 hours, your guests may get tired of the snacks and crave a real meal. Decide in advance how to feed your guests. You could all order a pizza, or take a break in the middle of the marathon to cook some burgers.
Step 7. Make sure you have a room large enough to fit everyone
Get plenty of pillows and blankets for even more comfort.
Step 8. Make it a night to remember
Dim the lights and close the curtains for a true "cinema effect". During breaks, put on some music and socialize; try to invite friends from different circles to make the evening even more interesting.
Advice
- Remember to go to the bathroom before each movie so you don't have to go halfway through a screening.
- Make yourself comfortable and don't pause all the time - it will ruin the movie.
- You can arrange a few short breaks to give everyone a chance to stretch their legs and make phone calls.
- Don't miss out on classic movie food like sodas and chips. Prepare them before each movie so you don't have to get up in the middle of the screening.
- Keep the marathon in a spacious room to avoid having a hot and crowded environment.
- If there are children in the house, make sure you have food and cribs available. In this case, it is best to keep the marathon under 12 hours or you will all become stressed and restless.
- Choose films that are consistent with each other, like the Star Wars saga, instead of a jumble of random films.
- If there are children, create a cozy and peaceful environment in which they can relax. Provide them with food and drinks such as fruit juice and water. Suitable foods could be pizza, popcorn, cotton candy, chocolate, candy.
- If you are not a nocturnal animal, consider starting the marathon in the early afternoon. You will be able to watch many movies and go to bed at a normal hour!
Warnings
- Too many pillows and blankets will make you fall asleep.
- You may be very sleepy and tired the next day.
