These origami rabbits are cute and fun. You can draw on your bunny, or you can make families, and even make your bunny jump! While Method 2 doesn't jump like the first, it looks more like the common bunny. See the first step below (of each method) to get started!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Make a Hopping Rabbit
Step 1. Get a sheet of notebook or another rectangular piece of paper
Anything is fine, as long as it's not square. You can use things like a business card, a bill, or a whole sheet of paper. Keep in mind that a small sheet will jump more easily, but a large sheet will be easier to fold.
Origami paper is the best, especially as it comes in beautiful designs. Sides of two different colors can sometimes make mistakes easier to see
Step 2. Fold the top right corner of the paper diagonally to the opposite side
Step 3. Open the sheet
Then fold the top left corner to the opposite side, just like before.
Step 4. Open the sheet
You should see two folds forming an X.
Step 5. Fold the sheet back through the center of the X
It will create a rectangle at the edge of your paper.
Step 6. Reopen the sheet
You should see the X with a line running through it and several small triangles emerging. You are there?
Step 7. Push the side triangles in with your fingers
They should push towards the center. This is what will allow your rabbit to do its hops.
Step 8. Tear down the creases by pushing the sides in and the edge down
It should now look like a house: rectangular on one side, triangular on the other.
Step 9. Fold the two sides of the "house" inward so that they meet in the center
The sides will go under the tips of the triangles on top. It is fine to leave a small gap between the edges. The "house" should now look more like an arrow.
Step 10. Turn the arrow and fold the bottom and long part almost all the way to the top
The tip of the "arrow" should still be visible.
Step 11. Take a little more than half a rectangle and fold it down
Make a firm crease with your finger.
Step 12. Turn the card over again
Then fold both ends of the triangle towards the center. Do you see the ears?
Step 13. Curl the tips back a little to make the ears
Now that you can see where the muzzle goes, feel free to draw one!
Step 14. Make your rabbit jump by pressing lightly on the space behind his ears
Then let it go! How far will your rabbit go?
Method 2 of 2: Make a Steady Rabbit
Step 1. Start with a large sheet of origami paper, with the drawn side down
Small is fine too - it's just a little harder to fold.
Step 2. Fold the paper in half, forming a triangle
Step 3. Re-open the sheet and fold both sides into the crease
You should now have something that looks like the beginning of a paper airplane. It also looks a bit like an ice cream cone - the cone will be the drawn part, and the bottom part (the empty side) will pop out at the top in a triangular shape.
Step 4. Fold the exposed bottom over to the drawn side
In other words, you know the ice cream cone shape you just got? Fold the "ice cream" over the "cone" piece. If you are using drawn paper, each part should now show you the drawn side.
You should have got a small triangle on top of a larger triangle. The card as a whole is a perfect big triangle
Step 5. Fold the flap (ice cream) 2/3 of the way back
You should be creating a small triangle that goes in the opposite direction; the triangle is the underside (not drawn) side of your paper. Later it will become your queue.
Step 6. Turn the paper over and take the scissors
Starting at the thinnest tip of your large triangle, cut 1/3 the distance along the center crease. This will create the head and ears.
Step 7. Fold in half, bending the cut 1/3 up at a 90 ° angle
Fold them up on both sides. Here's the head and ears, there's the body in the center, and that little triangle you took a couple of steps ago? It's the tail!
Step 8. Draw eyes and a muzzle
Even just two dots will bring the pet to life. Now make another rabbit to give him a friend!
Advice
- If you want to create a frog instead, simply fold the "hind legs" in the opposite direction, and the rabbit's ears become the frog's front legs!
- If you still can't get your rabbit to jump, try shortening the folds made in step 12. To fix this, flip the rabbit over, straighten the fold, and fold it shorter.
- Flip the folds to "jump" to make a frog with legs.
- Consider using recycled paper; it's better for the environment.
- The stiffer the paper, the higher your rabbit's hops will be.
- Feel free to add some eyes and draw a nose, etc.
- Try tucking back and forth to make sharper creases.
- If you can't get your rabbit to jump, try pushing down and holding it so that the rabbit's head is looking up; then release.
- It is perfect for all ages and a lot of fun.
