Have you found that the cleansers on sale don't get along with your skin type? Try making a homemade cleanser using natural ingredients. The procedure is simple and the result is ideal for the skin.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Cleanse the Skin of the Face with Honey
Step 1. Make a facial cleanser with honey
It is an ingredient that naturally exfoliates the skin by freeing it of dead cells without irritating it, as some abrasive elements do, for example salt and sugar. Honey also has moisturizing properties, so it leaves your facial skin soft and smooth. It is also a natural antiseptic that, in addition to removing toxins from the skin, helps kill the bacteria that cause acne.
- Honey is suitable for all skin types.
- You can use honey as a cleanser, but not as a makeup remover. To remove makeup it is best to use oil. To learn how to make an oil-based cleanser, refer to the section of the article dedicated to this ingredient.
Step 2. Protect your clothes and hair
Honey is liquid and very sticky, so to avoid getting dirty it is best to collect your hair and protect your clothing with a towel wrapped around your chest and shoulders. If you have short hair, you can keep it off your face with barrettes or wear a shower cap.
Step 3. Moisten face skin with water
Tilt your torso over the sink and rinse your face with warm water. Honey dissolves more easily if your skin is wet and you will have less trouble spreading it all over your face.
Step 4. Pour some honey into the palm of your hand
Use about half a teaspoon of raw honey. After pouring it into the hollow of the palm, stir it briefly with your finger to soften and warm it. If it feels too thick, you can add a few drops of hot water to dissolve it a little and make it easier to smear.
Step 5. Massage the honey into the skin
Distribute it on the fingertips of both hands and apply it to the face in gentle circular motions. Avoid the eye area, where the skin is most sensitive.
Step 6. Wash the honey off your skin using warm water
Spray your face with water and then gently massage it with your fingers to remove the honey.
If you have blackheads on your face and want to thoroughly cleanse your pores, you can leave the honey on as a mask for 5-10 minutes before rinsing the skin with warm water
Step 7. Dry your face
Blot it with a soft, clean towel to dry it. Be careful not to rub your skin so it doesn't get irritated.
Step 8. Use a moisturizer and toner if desired
The moisturizer serves to trap moisture in the skin, which therefore remains soft and smooth for longer, while the function of the tonic is to restore its natural pH and promote the closure of the pores.
Method 2 of 4: Cleanse Face Skin with Oil
Step 1. Get a bowl or bottle
You have to mix two different oils, so you need a container.
Step 2. Pour in the castor oil
The amount needed depends on the type of skin. Use the following guidelines to get the best possible result:
- If you have oily skin, use two teaspoons of castor oil;
- If you have normal skin, use one and a half teaspoons;
- In case of dry or mature skin it is best to use only one teaspoon of castor oil.
Step 3. Choose and add carrier oil
Used alone, castor oil tends to dry out the skin a lot, even the naturally oily one, so it is advisable to dilute it with a carrier oil. Here is a list of suitable oils; choose the most suitable for your skin type:
- If you have oily skin, use a teaspoon of one of the following oils: argan, grape seed, jojoba, sunflower, sweet almond, or tamanu.
- If you have normal skin, add one and a half teaspoons of one of these oils: argan, apricot, grapeseed, sunflower, sweet almond, or tamanu.
- For dry or mature skin, it is best to use two teaspoons of one of the following carrier oils: argan, apricot, avocado, grapeseed, jojoba, sunflower, sweet almond or tamanu.
Step 4. Use your new cleanser to clean your facial skin daily
The best time to use it is in the evening, before going to sleep. Simply massage the cleanser into your skin, then cover your face with a small soft towel soaked in warm water. Relax for a minute, then wipe your face with the towel to remove the oil and impurities. Rinse the towel off and let it sit on your face again for a minute. Repeat these simple steps until you've removed most of the oil from your skin.
Some pimples may appear after using this cleanser, but fear not: this is a temporary reaction due to the new treatment; soon the skin will get used to it
Step 5. You can also use this cleanser as a makeup remover
When it's time to remove your makeup, pour a few drops of your cleanser onto a cotton pad. Pass it where you need it and then rinse the skin with warm water. Finally, apply the toner and moisturizer.
Method 3 of 4: Cleanse Face Skin with Oatmeal
Step 1. Get all the ingredients you need
To make this cleanser, you need oatmeal and almond flour. The first works by gently cleaning the skin, while the second works as an exfoliant and removes dead cells. Here's what you need in detail to prepare this DIY cleaner:
- 40 g of oat flour;
- 60 g of almond flour;
- A liquid of your choice (e.g. water, milk, lemon juice, witch hazel water);
- A glass jar.
Step 2. Find a suitable container
For convenience, it is better to transfer the mixture of the two flours in a container to be kept handy in the bathroom cabinet. When it is time to wash your face you will need to combine a small dose with some liquid.
You can use a simple glass jar and maybe decorate it with string or a cute label
Step 3. Blend the two flours
Measure 40 g of oat flour, put it in the container and then add 60 g of almond flour. Close the jar, make sure it is sealed and then shake it to mix the two flours.
If you can't find oat or almond flour at the grocery store, you can make it at home by mincing whole oats or almonds with a blender, grinder or food processor. If you want to make both flours at home, blend the almonds and oats separately
Step 4. You can add an essential oil and a slightly abrasive ingredient if you want
They are not essential elements, but they can make the detergent more effective and refined. Essential oils or, if you prefer, herbs will also impart a pleasant scent. Take a cue from the following indications, based on your skin type:
- If you have oily skin, add 2 tablespoons of fine sea salt, 2 tablespoons of dried mint powder and 5 drops of rosemary essential oil (optional);
- If you have dry skin, add 2 tablespoons of milk powder, 2 tablespoons of dry calendula powder and 5 drops of Roman chamomile essential oil (optional).
- If you have combination skin, add 2 tablespoons of cornmeal, 2 tablespoons of dry chamomile powder and 5 drops of lavender essential oil (optional).
Step 5. Choose a liquid
It is necessary to add a liquid ingredient to be able to spread the detergent. You can take inspiration from the following proposals, based on your skin type:
- If you have oily skin, you can use lemon juice, rose water, witch hazel, or tap water.
- If you have normal skin, you can use glycerin, honey, rose water, a mint tea or plain water;
- If you have dry skin, you can choose between milk, cream or yogurt.
Step 6. Use the cleaner
Moisten your face with warm water. Immediately after, take two teaspoons of flour and add enough liquid to turn it into a paste that can be spread. You can pour the flour into the hollow of your palm, add the liquid and mix with your fingers or you can use a bowl and spoon.
Step 7. Massage the cleanser onto your face
Make circular and delicate movements, taking care to avoid the eye contour area, where the skin is particularly sensitive. Massage your skin like this for 20-30 seconds to take advantage of the exfoliating properties of almond flour.
Step 8. Rinse your face using cold water
Gently massage your skin to remove the cleanser. At this stage it is better to use cold water because it helps to close the pores.
Step 9. Dry your face
Gently pat your skin dry with a soft, clean towel, without rubbing so as not to irritate the skin.
Step 10. You can use a toner and moisturizer if you want
The tonic has a double function, favoring the closing of the pores and rebalancing the pH of the skin, while the cream serves to restore the necessary hydration.
Step 11. Save the cleaner for daily use
The one hundred grams of flour will last for several days. Whenever you use the cleaner, be sure to screw the lid tightly onto the jar to keep the flour and other ingredients out of moisture. As a precaution, keep it in a cool, dry place.
Method 4 of 4: Ideas for Other Cleansers
Step 1. Treat dry skin with apples
Put all the ingredients listed in the blender or food processor to get a smooth and homogeneous mixture. Spread the cleanser on your wet face and let it sit for 5 minutes before rinsing the skin with lukewarm water. Here is the list of ingredients needed to prepare this cleanser:
- 2 apples, peeled and sliced;
- 125 g of plain yogurt;
- ½ tablespoon of olive oil;
- ½ tablespoon of honey.
Step 2. Make a cleanser using honey and lemon juice if you have oily skin
Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix them with a fork or spoon. Massage the cleanser into damp facial skin and let it sit for 30 seconds before rinsing off with warm water. Here is the list of ingredients needed to prepare this cleanser:
- 50 g of oatmeal;
- 60 ml of lemon juice;
- 60 ml of water;
- ½ tablespoon of honey.
Step 3. Use cucumber if you have normal skin
Put all the ingredients listed in the blender or food processor for a smooth, easy-to-spread mixture. Apply the cleanser to damp facial skin and let it sit for 5 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Here is the list of ingredients needed to prepare this cleanser:
- 125 g of plain yogurt;
- ½ medium sized cucumber cut into coarse pieces;
- 5 mint leaves.
Step 4. Take advantage of the properties of yogurt to cleanse the skin of the face
Yogurt alone is sufficient to effectively cleanse the skin. If you prefer, you can add a teaspoon of lemon juice to each tablespoon of yogurt. In addition to giving a pleasant scent to the cleanser, lemon juice will act as a natural astringent that is very useful in the presence of enlarged pores. Spread the yogurt on damp skin, taking care to avoid the eye contour area where it is very delicate, then rinse your face with warm water.
- If you want, you can add a drop or two of an essential oil of your choice to further perfume the cleanser. Among the most suitable essential oils are that of lavender and vanilla.
- If you have decided to add lemon juice, you shouldn't expose yourself to the sun because it makes your skin much more sensitive to ultraviolet rays.
- Keep in mind that yogurt can lighten your skin, so consider following one of the other recipes if you want to keep your tan intact.
Step 5. Use papaya to heal the skin
Put all the ingredients listed in the blender or food processor for a smooth, easy-to-spread mixture. Massage the cleanser onto your wet face, then rinse the skin with warm water. Here is the list of ingredients needed to prepare this cleanser:
- 1 large peeled aloe vera leaf;
- 1 small papaya peeled and sliced;
- 1 tablespoon of honey;
- 1 teaspoon of plain yogurt.
Step 6. Stimulate the skin with this cleanser
Put all the ingredients listed in the blender or food processor for a smooth, easy-to-spread mixture. Massage the cleanser into damp facial skin and then rinse it off with warm water. You can freeze the leftover product and use it within a month. Here is the list of ingredients needed to prepare this cleanser:
- 1 ripe tomato;
- 2 tablespoons of milk;
- 2 tablespoons of orange, lime or lemon juice.
Warnings
- If the cleanser recipe includes lemon juice, you shouldn't expose yourself to the sun after using it. Lemon juice makes your skin more sensitive to ultraviolet rays, so you can burn easily and severely.
- Remember that yogurt has the ability to lighten the skin, so don't use it if you don't want to give up your nice tan.
