Scratches on car paint can be frustrating, even if they are small. They can be caused by trees with low branches, other cars or doors, shopping carts, pets, toys, or sports equipment. To get rid of it, you won't have to completely repaint your car or pay a lot. You can remove subtle scratches with a few techniques to do in your garage or driveway to your home.
Steps
Step 1. Clean the scratched area
Wash with warm soapy water. Blot the area with a clean white cloth.
Step 2. Apply acetone to the scratch
You can also use a car-specific product but acetone, like the one used to remove nail polish, is fine. Dampen a white rag and gently wipe the scratch. Continue applying acetone until the scratch disappears.
Step 3. Use a car cleaning product
If the scratch doesn't go away after using acetone, try a specific car cleaning product. You can find these products in all spare parts stores or car showrooms.
Step 4. Use sandpaper for stubborn scratches
Wet the sandpaper with water and rub it against the affected area. Wet sandpaper will remove scratches and blemishes on the paint.
Use 2,000 or 3,000 grit sandpaper. Add 2 or 3 drops of soap to the water you will use to wet the sandpaper to make it more slippery. This will improve the procedure
Step 5. Blot the area with a dry cloth
Remove any debris or dust caused by sandpaper.
Step 6. Inspect the area for any other scratches or blemishes
Step 7. Apply polish or wax
Using acetone, polishing products and sandpaper, you will remove the protective wax and sealants along with the scratches. Use any brand of polish or wax that is usually used for cars and cover the paint with a thin layer.
