Snakes are the most fascinating and extraordinarily unique animals on the planet. There are no other creatures capable of capturing interest and at the same time terrifying people. Apart from this, very few creatures are able to adapt and blend in practically all situations such as snakes. Thanks to the low and flat bodies, most snakes can move by sliding without making any noise and without being seen. To try to find one, you will need a lot of insight, attention and this article.
Steps
Step 1. Make sure you look for snakes in the right places
Do research ahead of time on snakes that you can find in your area; Are there any snakes that are easy to find near your home? Are there any different races? If there are any poisonous ones, do research on the characteristics and signs they might leave and memorize all the information possible to recognize poisonous snakes in general. It's always best not to take risks - bring a snake guide with you to help you find them and illustrate any risks and dangers.
Step 2. Check the weather forecast
Snakes are usually most active in early summer or late spring. In this period they wake up from winter hibernation and go hunting. This means that they will move a lot and will not stand still in the sun. You will therefore have to be always alert.
Step 3. Get ready
If you are planning to go outside and away from your garden, you will need various things. First, a cell phone is vital in case you need to call for help. Wear long pants and thick boots. If you want to touch snakes (you shouldn't, unless you've taken courses to be able to do so), cover your arms well (chunky gloves and a long-sleeved sweatshirt may be fine). As has already been mentioned, bring a guide on the snakes you may encounter, even if you don't stray far.
Step 4. Start the search
- Sunny areas are a great place to start. In fact, snakes spend a lot of time in the sun and if you look for them at the beginning of summer they will be more active and moving.
- Check for cool, darkened areas, but don't put your hands inside burrows or bushes. Use a flashlight first to shed some light and remember that if you don't see any snakes, it doesn't mean there aren't any.
- Near the stones and under the rocks are good points to check. If possible, use a large stick to move the stones so if you see a snake your hands will be far from the animal.
- DO NOT dig under dry leaves and branches, even if tempted. If you really can't resist, know that you are putting yourself in a situation of extreme danger. You do not know if there are snakes under the leaves and if there are, by not seeing them you cannot know if they are poisonous or not. By the time you see the snake, it will have already identified you as a danger and will be ready to attack you.
Step 5. Look at the snake
If you wish, take pictures, but without the flash. Snakes are wild animals, do not move suddenly and remember that some snakes are much faster than humans, be careful.
Warnings
- Some snakes are EXTREMELY dangerous. If you are inexperienced or have none at all, don't look for them yourself.
- If you decide to take photos or videos of the snake, it is preferable to have someone check it out. It is difficult to notice warning signs or looming attacks through the camera lens.
- NEVER pick up a snake from the ground. Only do this if you are an expert and have been educated on the subject.
- NEVER hurt snakes, they could attack you.
