The shower gel is a very effective product to cleanse the body in the shower or in the bath. It is usually characterized by a smooth and silky texture, pleasant to apply to the skin. To start, choose a product containing natural oils, free from fragrances and sulfates, then apply a small amount with the help of a sponge to exfoliate and cleanse the body. The epidermis must always be hydrated after washing to ensure that it remains soft and hydrated.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Choosing the Shower Gel
Step 1. Look for a body wash that contains moisturizing ingredients
Read the ingredient list on the washcloth label to see if it contains moisturizing oils, such as coconut or argan. Shea and coconut butter are also effective for nourishing the skin. Buying a body wash based on moisturizing ingredients helps to keep the skin soft, preserving a correct hydrolipidic balance.
Avoid body wash that contain harsh chemicals, additives, and ingredients
Step 2. Purchase a fragrance-free and sulfate-free body wash
Body wash that contain fragrances or perfumes can dry out and irritate the skin. Sulfates such as sodium lauryl ether sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate and cocamidopropyl betaine can drain the sebum from the skin. Therefore, avoid products containing these ingredients.
Step 3. Avoid excessively foaming products
The foam that forms when the shower gel mixes with the water can drain the sebum from the skin and make it rather dry. Choose a product that only forms a light foam. Instead, avoid body wash that produce too much in contact with water.
You should also avoid body wash that promise a lot of soap bubbles, as they are too harsh on the skin
Part 2 of 3: Apply the body wash
Step 1. Use a small amount of body wash in the shower or bathtub
Just pour in a small amount - you don't need much to wash your whole body. Avoid using too much at one time, or it can irritate or dry out your skin.
When using the shower gel, take a lukewarm shower or bath so that you can moisten and wash your entire body
Step 2. Apply the body wash with the help of a sponge
Use a damp sponge to apply the body wash from top to bottom. Gently massage it into the skin to cleanse it and remove dead cells.
- Avoid using only your hands to apply the shower gel: it is more difficult to wash the whole body without the help of a sponge.
- Rinse the sponge regularly to prevent buildup of germs and bacteria. You can also replace it once a week.
- Avoid applying the body wash with a loofah sponge, which can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. It can also increase the chances of suffering from acne.
Step 3. Do not apply the body wash on the face
This product is designed exclusively for the body; a specific cleanser should be used on the face. Using body wash on the face can increase the risk of irritation and dryness.
Step 4. Rinse the shower gel with warm water
Once your body has been thoroughly washed, rinse the product with lukewarm water in the shower or bath. Make sure you remove it well from the skin. Soap residue can irritate and dry out.
Step 5. Dry your body
Gently pat your skin dry with a clean towel until it dries completely. Don't rub it so you don't risk irritating it.
Part 3 of 3: Maintain Good Cleansing Habits
Step 1. Apply a moisturizer after washing
As soon as you dry out after the bath or shower, rub a moisturizer into your skin. Using this product after washing helps to preserve an adequate hydrolipidic film and prevent any dryness problems.
- Use a cream that contains moisturizing ingredients, such as shea butter, coconut butter, and oats.
- Apply the moisturizer to areas that are particularly prone to drying out, such as knees, elbows, feet and hands.
Step 2. If the body wash you are using should dry out your skin, replace it with a more delicate one
If you notice that this product causes dryness or irritation, try using a shower gel specifically for sensitive skin, rich in natural and moisturizing ingredients.
Step 3. See a dermatologist if skin problems develop
If your skin becomes irritated, dry, or red from the shower gel, make an appointment with a dermatologist to find out what to do. It is possible that you are allergic to certain ingredients in the product or have skin that is too sensitive to conventional soaps.
