Many people use potassium (or rock) alum to treat minor cuts and wounds or as an aftershave treatment. When used on small cuts and wounds, potassium alum helps stop bleeding and skin healing. As an aftershave, it relieves irritation caused by shaving, tones the skin and prevents the appearance of acne by killing germs. Often sold in the form of transparent or milky hemostatic pencils, potassium alum can be used daily and last for a long time. The material of which it is formed is of natural and rocky origin and has antiseptic and astringent properties that make it an excellent ally of the razor.
