This Halloween, welcome children in disguise with this cute pumpkin in a disco ball version, also ideal to use to decorate your home or as an original centerpiece. The following tutorial offers two versions, both of which are very simple to make and have a spectacular effect.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Pumpkin in disco ball version with the drill
Make sure you are familiar with the electric drill before you start carving the pumpkin.
Step 1. Choose the right pumpkin
The pumpkin should be medium to large in size and as round as possible - just like a disco ball!
Choose a healthy, dent-free pumpkin and carve it just before Halloween night to keep it fresh for longer
Step 2. Cut the top of the pumpkin to make the lid
With a spoon or other sturdy tool, remove the pulp and throw it away (or save it to eat, or try roasting the seeds).
Step 3. Check the base of the pumpkin
The base should be flat, so remove a piece of the underside of the pumpkin if necessary. But remember that in this case you will have to place it on a surface.
Step 4. Mark the spots where you will drill holes
Mark the points all over the pumpkin evenly and regularly, from top to bottom (or vice versa). The points just scored will be drilled later.
Step 5. Drill the holes
For even better effect, use a suitable drill bit. Any electric drill will do just fine anyway. You decide the size of the holes –– you can make them wider by drilling larger holes.
-
Try to create even holes but don't worry if they aren't perfectly symmetrical.
-
Don't forget to make holes in the lid as well.
Step 6. Lay down the pumpkin
If you intend to light candles inside, make sure that the surface where you will place it is not flammable.
Step 7. Add the lights
Use wax or battery operated (LED) candles. Make sure the pumpkin is well lit, just like a disco ball!
Step 8. Finished
Method 2 of 2: Pumpkin in a disco ball version with CD
If you'd rather not handle the drill, try this alternative, quick and easy version - you don't even need to carve the pumpkin!
Step 1. Clean the pumpkin
Remove any dirt or stains from the surface and wait for it to dry before proceeding.
Step 2. Cut CDs into small pieces creating different shapes and sizes
Wear gloves and eye protection to avoid injuring yourself with any splinters.
-
Alternatively, if you have the time and patience, cut the CD into even pieces to make the pumpkin look even more realistic. But know that it is not an easy task and that you need to have a lot of patience.
Step 3. Glue the CD pieces to the pumpkin
Stick them all over the pumpkin leaving uniform spaces between one piece and the next, but don't worry too much about sticking them very close together (unless you want to make it absolutely perfect).
Step 4. Use silver liquid glitter to draw a ring on the base of the pumpkin stem
-
If you want, add a little glitter to fill in all the empty spots.
Step 5. Show off your pumpkin
For a better effect, place the pumpkin next to other pumpkins with lighted candles, or under another source of light, such as a lamp, to reflect the light just like in a disco.
