Typically almond oil is used to nourish skin and hair and is an important component of many beauty products. At the same time, however, it can be used for cooking. If you want to know how to do it yourself, all you need is a blender and a little patience. If you really want to make your own almond oil frequently, you can consider purchasing a manual oil press.
Ingrediants
Using a Blender
- 280 g of unroasted almonds
- 1-2 teaspoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Using a Manual Oil Press
280 g of toasted almonds
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Prepare Almond Oil in a Blender
Step 1. Pour the almonds into the blender
The almonds must be dry and fresh. Make sure your blender is clean and ready to use.
Step 2. Initially, blend them at a slow speed
You should start with a slow speed so that the almonds are blended slowly and carefully; acting differently you would risk making the process more complex.
Step 3. Stop the blender to remove buildup
When you start blending almonds, you may find that they tend to clump and form a ball, some of which also accumulate on the sides of the blender. Stop it to scrape them and incorporate them to the remaining mass. You may need to repeat the process several times, so be extremely rigorous in the act of blending.
Step 4. Blend the almonds on a faster speed
As the process progresses, you can simplify it by changing the set speed, taking it to medium or even high.
Step 5. As soon as the almonds are completely blended, you can add the extra virgin olive oil
When you have a rich and creamy dough, add a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil to speed up the mixing process. If you feel that the result is still not smooth and uniform enough, you can choose to add an additional teaspoon of oil.
Step 6. Store the blended almonds
Once the process is complete, you can transfer the almonds to a glass or plastic food container in which to store them at room temperature for about 2 weeks. This time should be sufficient to allow the oil to separate from the pulp.
Step 7. Filter the oil
To extract as much oil as possible, you can try tilting the container and letting the oil run into a separate container. Alternatively, you can use a sieve or colander to separate the oil from the pulp.
Step 8. Use the oil
You can use the oil to care for your skin or hair, or for aromatherapy purposes. Remember not to throw the almond pulp, you can use it in your recipes in the kitchen or mix it with a delicate vegetable oil and a little salt and then enjoy it on toast.
Part 2 of 3: Using a Manual Oil Press
Step 1. Place the almonds on the top of the press
An oil press can be a little more expensive than a blender, but it allows you to process almonds more thoroughly. Mount the press on a table or sturdy surface of your choice.
Step 2. Start turning the crank
By simply turning the crank in a slow and delicate way you will give life to the production of oil by the toasted almonds. Unlike when using a blender, you don't have to worry about any buildup on the sides of the utensil.
Step 3. Use a container to collect the oil
Simply place it under the almonds and wait for the oil to drop into the container. As the process progresses, turning the crank will become easier.
Step 4. Use the oil
In this case, you can use the oil immediately as it will not be necessary to wait for it to separate from the pulp. While it may appear slightly cloudy, your almond oil will be perfectly effective. If you really want your oil to appear more transparent, pour it into a container and let it rest for a day so that the particles settle to the bottom of the container.
Part 3 of 3: Using Almond Oil
Step 1. Use almond oil to moisturize facial skin
Almond oil can be used as a daily moisturizing cosmetic. Helps to soften dry or rough skin and ensures effective protection. You can take care of your face without using any chemicals thanks to the simple use of almond oil. All you have to do is moisten your hands with hot water and massage about ½ teaspoon of almond oil into your face.
It will not be necessary to remove the oil from the skin, consider it as a normal moisturizing cosmetic and allow it to be absorbed by the skin
Step 2. Use almond oil to make a face mask
Another possible use for almond oil is to create a beauty mask capable of taking care of your skin. All you need to do is prepare the mask in a small container, giving it a pasty consistency that allows you to apply it to the entire surface of the face with your hands. Apply the mask upon awakening and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Here are the simple ingredients needed:
- 1 tablespoon of almond oil
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Step 3. Use almond oil to exfoliate facial skin
A facial scrub allows you to purify and exfoliate the skin of the face, removing dead cells and all traces of dirt or impurities. All you have to do is add about 1 teaspoon of salt or sugar to every tablespoon of almond oil, and then mix the ingredients in order to obtain a dough of the right density. Use your fingertips to massage the scrub into the skin of your face, then rinse with warm water.
Be gentle in applying the scrub. Rubbing the skin with too much pressure could risk irritating it
Step 4. Use almond oil as a conditioner
If you want to use almond oil as a conditioner, all you need to do is take about 1 teaspoon of the oil and massage it into damp hair. Use a comb to distribute it evenly and cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap. Leave the treatment on for about 30 minutes allowing the oil to work its magic, then wash your hair with shampoo to remove it.
By repeating the beauty treatment at least once a week, your hair will soon look healthier
Step 5. Use almond oil on dry hair
You can use it as you would any other hair oil. Simply pour about half a teaspoon into the palm of your hand, massage it into your hair and use the comb to distribute it evenly. The oil will make your hair look shiny and protect it from split ends.
Do not repeat the application more than once a day every other day, otherwise your hair will take on a greasy and heavy look
Step 6. Use almond oil to create a lip balm
If you want to use almond oil to care for your lips, get the simple ingredients you need. All you have to do is let them melt in a bain-marie using the lowest possible degree of heat, after which you can pour the mixture into a container for lip balm and wait 24 hours to be able to use it. You can use the following ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of shea butter
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of almond oil
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of beeswax
- container used for lip balm.
