You can call Mexico from anywhere in the world, you just need to know the exit code for your country and the access code for Mexico. Here's how to do it.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Essential Steps
Step 1. Dial the exit code for your country
In order for the telephone line provider to understand that the number dialed is directed to another country, you must first enter the specific exit code for your country. This allows the person making the call to "leave" their country.
- Some countries share the same exit code, but there is no single exit code that can be used for all countries. See the list of exit prefixes below.
- For example, the exit code for the United States is "011". When making a call to Mexico from the United States, you must first dial "011".
- Example: 011-xx-xxx-xxx-xxxx
Step 2. Enter "52", the access code for Mexico
When you call any international number, you need to specify which country the call should be directed to; this is done by typing the entry code of the country you want to call. The prefix for Mexico is "52".
- Each country has its own area code. These access codes are unique and unique to each country, unless a state belongs to a region of countries that share the same prefix. Mexico does not share its area code with any other country.
- Example: 011-52-xxx-xxx-xxxx
Step 3. Dial the mobile prefix when needed
If the phone you are trying to call is a cell phone in Mexico, you will need to dial "1" to provide this indication.
- There is no prefix to dial when calling a landline.
- Example: 011-52-1-xxx-xxx-xxxx (call a mobile line in Mexico)
- Example: 011-52-xxx-xxx-xxxx (call a landline in Mexico)
Step 4. Enter the area code
Each region in Mexico has its own area code. In order to dial any phone number, you must first type in the area code that covers that phone number. This applies to both the landline and the mobile line.
