This article shows you how to check the speed with which the RAM memory installed in a computer (Windows and Mac) can transfer data.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Windows
Step 1. Go to your computer's "Start" menu
Click on the button with the Windows logo located in the lower left corner of the desktop. The "Start" menu will appear.
Step 2. Type the keyword cmd into the search bar of the "Start" menu
It will search your computer for the Windows "Command Prompt". The latter icon should be visible at the top of the result list that appears.
If no search bar is visible in the "Start" menu, simply type in the keyword to search for. The most modern versions of Windows allow you to search your computer by simply opening the "Start" menu and typing the keyword to search for
Step 3. Click the Command Prompt icon
It should be listed at the top of the hit list that appears. The "Command Prompt" window will appear.
Step 4. Type the command wmic memorychip get speed
This command allows you to trace the working frequency of the RAM memory banks installed in the computer which corresponds to the operating speed.
Step 5. Press the Enter key on your keyboard
The command entered will be executed and the RAM memory speed will be displayed in the "Command Prompt" window.
Method 2 of 2: Mac
Step 1. Go to your Mac's "Utilities" folder
It is stored in the "Applications" folder. Alternatively, you can perform a search on your computer by clicking the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner of the screen and typing the keywords in the "Spotlight" field that appears.
Step 2. Double click on the System Information icon
It features a computer chip and is located inside the "Utilities" folder. This will open the application under consideration in a new window.
Step 3. Select the Memory item from the left panel
Locate and access the "Memory" tab located within the navigation panel of the "System Information" window. The card indicated contains detailed information regarding the technical specifications of the RAM banks installed in the computer.
Step 4. Check the operating frequency of each RAM chip by consulting the "Memory Slots" table
It lists all the RAM memory modules installed in the Mac, while the operating frequency of each is indicated in the "Speed" column. The "Size", "Type" and "Status" columns show the size of each RAM bank (expressed in GB), the model and the operating status respectively.
