The Mod culture and clothing are based on the Modernist culture in vogue from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. Fashion was born on the streets of London, England. It has a classic, fantastic look, and is now spread all over the world!
Steps
Step 1. Choose the right colors
The Mod style is based on the contrast of colors, in particular black and white, with hints of bright yellow, orange, pink, and pastel colors in general. Geometric patterns, based on stripes or the English flag, were widespread.
Step 2. Remember to avoid 1950s fashion
The Mod style is the antithesis of women's fashion of those years. It does not follow its style in any way. On the contrary, the Mod style is characterized by tight clothes, unisex styles, and evident patterns.
Part 1 of 3: Method 1: The Mod Style for Women
Step 1. Keep your hair short, and make up your eyes well
Twiggy Lawson eye makeup is the style to adopt. Women can use dark eyeliner and false lashes.
- Avoid other types of makeup, like blush or eyeshadow. A nude lipstick is fine.
- Pale skin is fine; don't get a tan.
Step 2. Choose some classic Mod style clothes
- Try wearing sleeveless tops, and loose sweaters. Mod shirts often have 3/4 sleeves, or are sleeveless. Loose sweaters are essential.
- Look for ankle-length shorts. These are also typical of the Mod style.
- Use miniskirts. Mod skirts are very short. Short dresses, wider at the base, and with evident geometric patterns are also widely used.
Step 3. Try on heavy shoes
Large leather boots, ankle or knee high, or even clogs in different colors are fine. Go-Go boots are a symbol of the era.
Step 4. Don't forget the accessories:
shoes, jewelry, hair bands, and large sunglasses inspired by modern art complete the look.
Step 5. Wear heavy coats for the cold London weather
Raincoats and pea jackets are fine.
You can also borrow a coat from a male Mod. This may suggest that you are dating though
Part 2 of 3: Method 2: The Mod Style for Men
Step 1. Buy some classic Mod style clothes
You can have a great Mod style without having to spend a lot of money.
- Look for well-made clothes with a tight fit. The original Mods wore tailored suits (black, gray and brown) with vests and handkerchiefs. Pants should be tight, and jackets should always have three buttons.
- There is no need to wear a suit. You can try collared shirts, and sweaters. Shirts, even plaid, and cashmere sweaters are great choices.
- Classic black trousers or trousers for a suit are better than jeans; these are almost never suitable for Mods.
Step 2. Cut your hair in Mod style
Grow them up a bit so that you have a helmet. The hair should look like what the Beatles wore in 1965.
The Beatles haircut is fine, but don't listen to their music at all. Much better the Who, Oasis, and other modern Mod music
Step 3. And now the accessories
Thin ties, period hats, and scarves complete the look for men.
To give the finishing touches, use Mod band pins or the British flag
Step 4. Wear elegant shoes
Pointed shoes, or oxfords, are always a good choice.
- Always keep them shiny.
- Doc Martens and desert boots are fine too.
Step 5. Wear a winter coat
Look for skinny, tight coats.
- Coats should always be tight, never loose.
- "Made in Britain" coats like Burberry are fine. But buy an old one at a flea market; it will look more authentic and cost less.
- Also try wearing a Royal Air Force jacket, with a logo of the Who, the Untouchables or others.
Part 3 of 3: Method 3: Perfect the Look
Step 1. Watch suitable films
You can find many inspirations from the film Quadrophenia, by the Who. In that movie, there are a lot of people dressed up as classic Mods. Their way of dressing may be slightly different from that of modern Mods, but they are still beautiful things to look at.
Step 2. Check out some examples of Mods on the Who website
. There you can find some great examples of how modern mods dress. There are also links to Instagram feeds of people with great Mod style.
Step 3. Remember that the Rockers are your enemies
You don't like skinheads much either. Ska fans are fine.
