Want to add a challenge to your next Skyrim adventure? Why not try playing as a vampire? You will earn the hatred of other humanoids and you will not be able to stay long in the sunlight, but you will have powerful spells and abilities at night. Start from Step 1 to learn how to get the disease that leads to vampirism, and how to play a vampire once.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Becoming a Normal Vampire
Step 1. You contract the "Bleeding Vampiris" disease
This is the disease that leads to vampirism. You can get the disease by being attacked by vampires. Physical attacks from vampires and the "Vampiric Drain" spell have a 10% chance to transmit the disease.
Morvarth's Lair is one of the best places to catch Sanguinare Vampiris, as there are many low-level vampires in the first area of the cave. You will be able to take many hits before you die and have a good chance of being infected. Other places you can experience include Bloody Throne, Haemar's Shame, Fellglow Fortress, and Cavern of the Broken Race
Step 2. Make sure you are not immune
If you are infected with Lycanthropy (you are a werewolf), you are immune to Sanguinare Vampiris. The Hircine Ring also makes you immune. Argonians and wood elves are less likely to contract the disease due to their resistance.
Step 3. Don't cure the Bleeding Vampiris
The disease takes 72 hours to transform you into a vampire. After this period, the character will become a vampire.
- You will see messages accompanied by red flashes as you approach the end of the 72 hours.
- You will need to expose yourself to sunlight at least once before the game allows you to transform into a vampire.
- You can cure Bleed Vampiris by drinking a Cure Disease potion or by praying at an altar. Avoid these activities for three days.
Step 4. Use the console (PC only)
You can quickly become a vampire without contracting the disease by using the cheat console. Open the console by pressing ~ or / on an Italian keyboard.
Type player.setrace razzagiocatoreracevampire and press Enter. For example, if you are a Khajit, type player.setrace khajitracevampire
Part 2 of 3: Becoming a Vampire Lord
Step 1. Get Dawnguard
This is a Skyrim expansion and is required to become a Vampire Lord. You can purchase Dawnguard for all systems on which Skyrim is available. Vampire Lords have very different weaknesses to cold and fire when compared to normal Skyrim vampires.
Vampire Lords can transform into terrifying winged beasts. You will be able to cast blood spells and unlock many powerful vampiric abilities
Step 2. Start the Dawnguard mission
After installing the expansion, the game's guards and innkeepers will start talking to your character about the vampire hunter group. This will start the mission. You will need to reach Fort Dawnguard, which is located in the southeast corner of the map, east of Riften.
Step 3. Start the "Awakening" mission
After talking to the Dawnguard members, you will receive this quest, which will take you to the Dimhollow Crypt. Once there, you will find the vampire Serana, who will ask the player to escort her to her father at Volkihar Castle.
Step 4. Escort Serana home
Take Serana to Volkihar Castle, which is west of Solitude. Accompany Serana to Lord Harkton, who will offer to transform you into a vampire lord. This is your first chance to become a Vampire Lord, but you will have two more chances in the future.
- In the quest Chasing Echoes, Serana offers the player to make him a Vampire Lord. This is because living beings cannot normally enter the Mound of Souls.
- After defeating Harkon by completing Kindred Judgment, Dawnguard's final mission, the player can ask Serana to make him a Vampire Lord.
Step 5. Use the console (PC only)
If you prefer not to complete the missions to become a Vampire Lord, you can activate this status by inserting a cheat in the console. Open the console by pressing ~ or / on an Italian keyboard.
- If you are not a normal vampire, become a vampire using the commands described in the previous section.
- Enter the following command to be able to transform into a Vampire Lord: player.addspell 301462a to gain access to Vampire Lord spells.
Part 3 of 3: Living like a Vampire
Step 1. Find the balance between positive and negative effects
Every 24 hours after becoming a vampire, you will move on to the next "Stage" of vampirism. There are four possible stages, with increasing positive and negative effects. Feeding yourself will always bring you back to the First Stage.
- Each stage will increase your Cold resistance, but your Cold vulnerability will also increase.
- The damage you take from sunlight increases with each stage.
- Each stage gives you access to more vampire spells and increases your vampire strength.
- Non-player characters will become more hostile towards you as the stages increase and will attack you on sight at the Fourth Stage.
Step 2. Travel at night
The sunlight will hurt you, especially if you are in one of the more advanced stages of vampirism. Traveling at night will also allow you not to be seen by most of the non-player characters. Make good use of your vampiric skills to hide from sight.
Step 3. Feed yourself to quench your thirst for blood
If you want to avoid most of the negative effects of vampirism, you will need to feed regularly. If you are playing the regular version of Skyrim, you can feed on sleeping people by approaching them and pressing the interact button as if you want to rob them. Another option will appear, which will allow you to feed yourself.
- If you're playing Dawnguard, you can feed on an awake person if you use the Vampire's Seduction spell first.
- Feeding will turn witnesses hostile, and will raise the bounty on your head by 40 gold.
- Feeding on your bride is one of the easiest ways to manage your bloodlust.
Step 4. Heal your vampirism
If you no longer want to be a vampire, you can complete a special mission to reverse the effects of the disease. First, ask any innkeeper for the latest news and he'll tell you about Falion, a vampire scholar. You can find Falion in Morthal.
- Falion will inform you that you can reverse vampirism with a Black Soul Gem. You can fill the gem by casting Soul Drain on a humanoid before defeating it. Falion will sell you a Black Soul Gem if you need it.
- Return the filled gem to Falion and he will cure your vampirism. You can repeat the process as many times as you like, as long as you have a full black soul gem.
Step 5. Heal your vampirism with the console (PC only)
If you fail to complete the mission and desperately want to remove the vampirism, you can use the console to insert a trick and remove it instantly. Open the console by pressing ~ or / on an Italian keyboard.
Type player.addspell 301462a and press Enter. Then type showracemenu and change your race. You will be cured of vampirism immediately
Warnings
- Treating vampirism can be difficult and time-consuming. Save the game before becoming a vampire.
- You can't be a werewolf and a vampire at the same time. Each werewolf character will be cured of lycanthropy when they become a vampire.
