Car windows can get dirty and scratched making it difficult to see. When you find any light scratches on your car glass, consider removing them by polishing the glass. The first step in polishing the glass is to clean the inside and outside. Then polish the outside of the glass and apply a sealant.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Clean the Windows
Step 1. Choose the right time and place
When you wash your car, cleaning and polishing the windows should be the last thing to do. You should also clean the windows away from direct sunlight when the windows are dry enough, otherwise the sun could cause the glass cleaner to dry, leaving marks on the glass.
Step 2. Choose the right products
A glass cleaner designed specifically for cars is better than a common household glass cleaner, which often contains ammonia and other chemicals that can be dangerous when used on the car. A microfiber cloth is also required, as it is abrasive enough to gently rub the glass surface without scratching it.
Step 3. Lower the windows halfway
You must have free access to the upper edge of the glass.
Step 4. Spray the glass cleaner on the window
Clean the glass by wiping the window cleaner with a microfiber cloth, moving from side to side. Do this on both sides of the glass.
Step 5. Use the dry side of the microfiber cloth
Remove any remaining moisture from the windows by drying them with the dry side of the cloth.
Step 6. Roll up the windows and clean the bottom half
Spray the glass cleaner, spread it by wiping it on the surface, then always remove it by wiping.
Step 7. Clean the windshield and rear window
Spray the cleaner on the windshield and rear window and rub with the microfiber cloth, moving from top to bottom and from side to side. Eliminate moisture with the dry side of the cloth.
Step 8. Rinse
Once the stubborn dirt has been removed from the windows, you can remove any marks or patina with clean water without additives. Spray the water on the glass gently using a flexible tube for the outside and a spray bottle for the inside. Dry the glass by wiping with a clean microfiber cloth.
Method 2 of 2: Polishing the Windows
Step 1. Choose a glass polish
There are many glass polishes on the market. You can opt for a glass polishing kit, complete with special polishing discs that can remove the toughest scratches and imperfections, or you can simply choose a high-quality glass regeneration product that eliminates minor stains and scratches.
Step 2. Use a low speed random orbital polisher
The speed of the polisher must be set between 1000 and 1200 rpm and the machine must be equipped with a polishing pad.
Step 3. Apply the lubricating oil on the pad
The oil helps to distribute the polish better, reducing the amount of polish you need to use and thus decreasing the abrasiveness.
Step 4. Apply the polish to the pad
Use the amount indicated on the product label or apply a uniform layer of polish over the entire pad.
Step 5. Start from the top corner of the glass
Hold the handle with your dominant hand and use the other hand to guide the polisher. Do not apply pressure as the pad itself will exert enough pressure to polish the glass.
Step 6. Do this all over the glass
Move the machinery from one side to the other following a gradual rhythm. Do not shake the random orbital polisher here and there, as doing so will increase the chances of accidental glass breakage. Continue until you have passed the polish over the entire surface of the glass and stop the machine when the polish begins to dry.
Be aware that the random orbital polisher follows a specific pattern of motion. When it is moved to the right, it also moves upwards. When it is moved to the left, it also moves downwards. Do not oppose the rhythm of the machinery, rather learn to follow it
Step 7. Polish the polish residue to remove it
With a microfibre cloth, polish the residues of the polishing product to eliminate them by exerting a gentle and uniform pressure and making a small circular motion. Continue polishing until any marks or residues of the product disappear.
Step 8. Apply the glass sealant
Now your car windows are completely free of blemishes. The sealant helps keep the glass smooth and shiny for longer by sealing the glass pores. Apply a small amount of sealant to a car sponge and rub the sponge on the glass, moving from side to side and from top to bottom. Use the amount of sealant necessary to seal the entire outer surface of the glass.
