Birds are beautiful and graceful creatures in their natural habitat. But they aren't as bad when they invade your private property. Some species can damage the home, injure pets, destroy the garden and vegetable garden, as well as bring a lot of other annoyances. Many people take extreme measures, killing and poisoning animals, however there are many "passive" deterrents that can get rid of the problem. Birds will never completely disappear from your property, but by following these tips, you can avoid massive invasions and irritating behavior.
Steps
Step 1. Research your state's laws that protect birds
In some cases, these are very strict and restrictive rules. In some countries it is possible to kill pigeons, starlings and sparrows. However, make sure that the methods used are completely legal.
Step 2. Know that the use of chemicals to control birds can be very dangerous
In fact, these animals play an important role in most ecosystems (including urban ones), and poisoning them can cause intoxication of the entire food chain, including crops and water reserves. If you live in a rural area and have problems with pigeons, starlings or sparrows, solve it with a firearm; a chemical solution is not recommended.
Step 3. Hang aluminum foil where the spikes nest
Woodpeckers are beautiful creatures, but they can be dangerous if they choose your attic as their home, as they do damage to the ceiling and roof. Aluminum strips are great deterrents. These birds not only make holes in the wood, but also eat the insects that are inside. So if you want to get rid of them, eliminate their food source and keep the house clean of any bugs.
Step 4. Put some deterrents to scare the geese
These animals are generally chased away from swan territories, so if you put a few plastic swans on your property you should be able to check for them. Visual deterrents that disturb geese while they sleep are other valid non-toxic solutions.
Step 5. Use physical deterrents (such as grates or spiers) to discourage pigeons from perching on your home
If you live in the city, pigeons are a problem everywhere, and therefore also in your home. To deal with it, you can install physical obstacles around the entire perimeter of your home, as well as on the roof and window sills. They won't get them far away, but at least they'll force them to perch elsewhere.
Step 6. Capture them
A cage with a lure is usually sufficient for killing pigeons and other city birds. This obviously moves the problem away from your property.
Step 7. If you have to use chemicals, try Bird-X's
They are non-toxic products that do not harm the environment.
