Feeding goldfish is simple, but find out about their needs if you don't want to risk damaging their health. Read the article to find out more now!
Steps
Step 1. Learn about goldfish eating habits
Goldfish do not have the ability to know when they have eaten enough and tend to overfeed, putting their health at risk, for example with intestinal blockages. In addition, overeating can cause excessive stool production, and food that is not eaten quickly can accumulate on the bottom creating an unpleasant living environment. At each meal, limit yourself to pouring a quantity of food into the water that the fish are able to finish in 2 or 3 minutes.
Step 2. Purchase a food specifically designed for goldfish
Compared to other fish, they have a greater need for carbohydrates than for proteins. You can choose flake or ball food. Feed your goldfish twice a day and in the right quantities, as described above.
Some varieties of goldfish may need a different diet. If yours isn't a classic goldfish, do some research on it
Step 3. Supplement your goldfish's diet in the right way, for example with:
- Peas: Remove the peel from the peas before feeding them to the fish.
- Blanched green leafy vegetables.
- Larvae (available in pet stores).
- Oranges: Peel and slice them very thinly.
