A disability is simply a challenge that people face, whether they are healthy or not. The only difference is that many people don't approach it as such. Having a disability doesn't necessarily mean being worse, it just means doing things differently. Finally, having a disability is part of a social and cultural identity. Here are some tips on what to do if you think a disabled person wants help.
Steps
Step 1. Treat him as you would anyone else
People with disabilities are just people, and they don't need to be pampered or treated differently.
Step 2. Don't see your handicap as something to be ashamed of
This is dehumanizing and, whether intentional or not, resembles a form of discrimination against people with disabilities.
Step 3. Be there for him as for any other friend
Step 4. Fight for his rights
If someone is rude or mean to him, stand up to defend him as you would anyone else.
Step 5. Treat him the same way you would treat any other human being
Laugh, cry, be friends with him, just like you do with any other friend.
Step 6. Treat him with the respect we all deserve
Step 7. Ask him if he needs help before helping him
We all have the right to be independent and autonomous.
